SB2/Surface Dock - Max External Monitors Supported

Okay, first, thanks. Second, that's better than I expected to see. I have a couple of followup questions, if you don't mind: 1. How is the 4K @ 30Hz? Ive heard it describes as a bad experience... 2. Can you get Netflix to run at 4K on your external 4K display? If you have the service, could you...

    SB2 15" battery capacity

Great, thanks! Looking at your tablet battery, mine shows more wear than yours with only 30 cycles (it's at 21,810 as I write this). I'm mostly worried if it keeps up this pattern.

This might be a silly question

In RS4, which setting takes precedence, the Windows 10 Settings config or the Nvidia utility?

SB2/Surface Dock - Max External Monitors Supported

So, I'm a bit confused about all of this monitor stuff, so I'll ask about my specific desired setup and if anyone can give me any advice that would be much appreciated... I'm considering giving my desktop to my son and migrating to my SB2 15" as my all-time machine. That would mean connecting...

    SB2 15" battery capacity

So, I've had my SB2 15" since December 2017, and right now I have 29 cycles on my tablet battery and 33 cycles on my base battery. My concern is that while my base battery shows a full charged capacity of 62,330 mWh verses the design capacity of 62,200 (so 100.2%), my tablet battery shows a full...

    Using 2 laptops

Agreed on your points, and I’d likely get the Spectre x360 13 with a 4K display and only flip the screen around to media mode for Netflix. Otherwise, I’d just use it as a clamshell — it’s just a nice notebook period, outside of being a 2-in-1. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

About to get SB2 13"-worried about coil whine!

About to get SB2 13"-worried about coil whine!

Yes, the bolded part is worth noting: I've reviewed a few other eighth-generation Intel Core notebooks that also had coil whine, so this definitely isn't unique to the SB2. In most cases (as in most SB2s I've personally used), it's not enough to be a real issue, but it's been there.

About to get SB2 13"-worried about coil whine!

Oh, sure, didn't mean to come across the wrong way, I was in a bit of a rush. The reason I say it's important to note which model is because the 13.5-inch has far more reports of coil whine than the 15-inch. The 13.5-inch model I used for a bit to write a review had incredibly bad coil whine...

About to get SB2 13"-worried about coil whine!

    It's important to note whether it's a 13.5-inch or 15-inch model.

    SB2 15" and charge wattage

That's interesting, but it doesn't answer the main issue identified in this thread. Here, we're talking about when the dGPU is NOT being utilized, and a limited amount of power is being delivered to charge the batteries. On my SB2 15", over 40 watts is delivered to charge the batteries when...

    SB2 15" and charge wattage

Yes, unfortunately, I think you're seeing the behavior that kicked off that reddit thread that I referenced in the OP. When the battery is sufficiently low, you should see 40+ watts charge rate (when the dGPU isn't being used) until it hits around 90%, at which point the charge rate will slowly...

    SB2 15" and charge wattage

Interesting... I would think that you'd be seeing a significantly higher charge rate with your base battery so low. So, yes, that does seem odd. One check you could do is to let your base charge to 100%, so that both batteries are fully charged. Then, run on battery doing usual non-gaming...

Dual monitor from my MS book 2 and Pro 4

Another option is Multiplicity by Stardock. (Multiplicity | Software KVM Switch | Stardock). It's not a screen-exending program but rather a wireless KVM switch (and more). I use it with my desktop and an HP AIO, and it supports copy/paste between them so I can do everything except drag a window...

    SB2 15" and charge wattage

Yes, that's true, and it makes sense for preserving the battery. I started the thread because some people over on reddit were concerned that their chargers weren't providing enough power to the batteries, only around 20 watts rather than around 40 watts. I'm guessing they were seeing that...

    SB2 15" and charge wattage

Alrighty, so it might just be of academic interest, but I ran mine through a good bit of a charge cycle and the system does reduce the charge to the battery as it passes 90%. And it's smart about it: as it reduces charge to the first battery that hits 90%, it increases charge on the second...

Sounds like you have a good handle on testing things like this. I'll be glad to duplicate whatever you come up with.

    SB2 15" and charge wattage

Yep, there's a ton of stuff on reddit about this. If you come up with a good piece of software for testing, let me know and I'll run it on mine. If you happen to have Halo Wars sitting around, that's what I've been using lately to test because (I think) it's a relatively low-intensity game and...

    SB2 15" and charge wattage

Thanks! I think it would be valuable to gather as much info as possible, just in general. At this point, I haven't looked ad the power drain during gaming all that much, so just seeing how much power is provided for charging (including beyond 90% charged) would be very appreciated. The power...
