I just got a shipping notice for the new Pen, which I ordered after the SP and keyboard. No notice on them yet. Delivery date on the pen is next Monday... argh!!!

I ordered through Microsoft education price (my daughter is a college student), and I've gotten nothing about order progressing other than a couple days ago when credit card was charged.

My credit card just got charged... I have notifications on Amex. I ordered the i5/8G/256G with the keyboard, and the pen separately. In the Microsoft Store, my order now shows ordered for the SP, but the keyboard (same order) and pen both still say pre-ordered.

Yes, I agree.... I think we will definitely see a new Surface Book, although now I doubt it will be called a Surface Book 2. Its a great premium product and fills a distinct spot in their Surface lineup. No reason why they wouldn't produce a follow on.

Does anything update in the Microsoft Store during the process? Does it change from "preordered" to "shipping on....." to "shipped" with tracking number? Or will it just show up on the 15th with no other information prior?

Have you tried this? Press and hold the Volume-up button and the Power button on the your Surface at the same time for 15 seconds and then release both of them. The screen may flash the Surface logo, but remember to continue holding down the buttons for 15 seconds.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Microsoft didn't just start making these, and JD Power and Associates latest tablet survey showed Surface users more satisfied than iPad users. If the screen easily scratched, it would be widely talked about. I had one for only a short time...

Well was the pen $50 or $100; and does it have a pocket clip on it. If $100 and no clip, its the new one.

And you have the new pen, not the older one that came with the Surface Pro 4? You may truly be the first person on the planet to have one. None of the Microsoft Stores even have them in the US yet, even though they have the new Surface Pros.

My experience with magnesium is that it doesn't just bend very easily. That's one of the reason its used. So I think you are better off getting a replacement.

That HP is not bad, but the gold kick stand really turns me off to it. The Dell is nice looking but I think it is more a competitor for the Surface Book than the Pro. Both of these are likely to be no cheaper than the Surface Pro. I'm sticking with the new Surface Pro.
