    Just returned my SP3 i5...

Beautiful car, Too bad it throttles down to Toyota Camry speeds halfway around the track.

    Just returned my SP3 i5...

    1. It is marketed as a Tablet/PC Hybrid. A PC in a Tablet form factor. 2. Yes, throttling happens and is on many ultra books. Consider the I5 -1.9ghz SP3 gets beat pretty badly in performance tests by a lowly I5-1.4GHz 2014 MacBook air. Sure the SP3 is MUCH thinner, but the throttling is...

Major sites picking up the overheating Issue

Well, as long as the fan doesn't come on full blast, shut down and then show the thermometer (meaning too hot to power on)... all is good. Guess we were all wrong about it having issues.

    Overheating...Lost

Seems to be sporadic. This happened to me only once on my SP3 I5 version during updates. Hasn't happened to me on the I7 version (knock on wood).

Major sites picking up the overheating Issue

I find it very interesting that things that are not a problem get so much fanfare and relief when it's fixed. I'm really confused about the almost obsessive overlooking of how the device was presented (marketed) vs how it actually performs. The SP3 performs extremely well for most tasks as...

    Just returned my SP3 i5...

Why on earth are you considering an I5/I7 8GB, machine "Just" a tablet? MS never says it is just a tablet, and no other literature assumes this is just a tablet. It is marketed as the tablet that can replace your PC. MS touts this as a direct competitor to the MacBook Air and similarly...

    Microsoft about heat issue

I've rarely ever noticed the fan, though it comes on quite frequently on the I7. I think my I5 version was slightly louder, so it seems there is variations between SP3's. Not the I7 vs I5, but from SP3 to SP3.

Major sites picking up the overheating Issue

With a minority reporting it, do you feel it is an issue? The problem is that only a minority are reporting it and not that it may be overblown. It is too early to tell. I had the issue and didn't report it, as it only happened the one time. I never knew it happened to even the "Minority"...

    Undervolting Snakeoil Works

In my tests, you can quite close to -55 for CPU and CPU Cache undervolting, but if you change graphics to anything close -30 or so, it will freeze on graphic intensive processes. Basically to test stability on any changes, run the CPU stress test for more than 5 minutes, THEN... run the...

How do ya'll view this forum?

Via MUI IE. I do agree, it's the best browser so far for the SP3.

Major sites picking up the overheating Issue

I could see your issue with the article. Does it overstate the overheating problem? I can't say, but there have been many reports of the problem and the link he is referring to collects info of those that have been affected in some way. I had the dreaded thermometer pop up after my I5 shut...

    Microsoft about heat issue

Good to see the public acknowledgement. Shows they are committed to their customers concerns.

Major sites picking up the overheating Issue

I don't think they have been publicly shamed, and that's not the point. The point is reporting the issues repeatedly among hundreds of users can't be ignored to just user expectation. MS has been incredible with releasing timely updates on this model as well as previous versions. I do...

Major sites picking up the overheating Issue

I don't know the full scope of exactly what they are covering, though I see some here have participated in the other forum to answer questions or to just inform the user that it is not the device. The issue is unless you are a technophile, IT, tinkerer, etc, the tweaking could seem pretty...

Major sites picking up the overheating Issue

I think people and particularly the tech media expect a machine to meet claims by the manufacturer. Whether they meet your needs is another issue. It does meet 90% of my needs, but still would like to use the full processing power rather than be throttled back so severely.

Major sites picking up the overheating Issue

Genuine issues should be reported whether sales are hurt or not. Many manufacturers will only respond when the problem is elevated to the mainstream rather than on forums and blogs. I'm particularly interested in the throttling issue and the I7 vs I5 perception. It seems because of...

Major sites picking up the overheating Issue

It looks as if major sites are "Finally" picking up on the overheating and possibly throttling issues being reported by some consumers. After the 8/19 update, this is not quite as noticeable an issue, but it's good they are throwing the questions over to Microsoft. Manufacturers tend to FIX...

Anyone happier after switching to i5 from i7?

Had the I5 and upgraded to I7. Everything seems snappier on the I7 model.

How to max out your CPU all the time (no throttling).

    Settings recommended for I7 ?

    Should I get an SP3

Get it, try it, like it. Not sure about the recommendation of the I3 version, it is significantly slower than the other versions.
