    SB doesn't Autorotate when detached?

I had not considered that it might be the apps (MS Office in my case) which may be causing the problem. I usually load up my apps while attached, because it is easier, and then detach. As a possible workaround, I am going to avoid loading up my apps when attached, and see if it ever happens...

    SB doesn't Autorotate when detached?

My Hello camera works fine, although I have turned it off when waking from Sleep or Hibernate. For me, this problem with detach and auto-rotate seems to occur when the SB goes from being asleep and plugged in to being unplugged and then woken up. In other words, on my desk in my office it...

    Screen Brightness at 100%

Sometimes when I reboot my Surface Book (e.g. because my detach-auto-rotate is broken again), the screen will be at 100% brightness, even though all the settings are set to 50%. The screen brightness bar in settings will show 50%, and the screen icon if you press Fn-delete will show 50%, but...

    SB doesn't Autorotate when detached?

I had all my options set to Sleep, until I realized that (a) the SB would often not wake from sleep (black screen, keyboard lights up), and (b) the battery would drain while sleeping. To avoid these problems, I changed my options from Sleep to Hibernate. Now that supposedly the wake from sleep...

Youtube Reviewer Sends Surface Book Back For Refund

It's funny how the Microsoft fanboys on here are now blaming me for not returning my SB, or for not looking at reviews before I bought it. As if that's the problem here. I bought my SB as soon as they went on sale, so I had limited opportunity to look at reviews. In any event, all the initial...

Youtube Reviewer Sends Surface Book Back For Refund

I get encouraged every time problems seem to be fixed, and then I get discouraged every time old problems reappear, or new problems appear. It seems to me that each set of updates fixes one problem and creates another one. Overall, I would have to say my SB experience has been one of frustration.

Youtube Reviewer Sends Surface Book Back For Refund

I am using my SB exclusively for Microsoft Office. If Microsoft's "ultimate laptop" can't run Microsoft Office on Microsoft Windows, then it isn't very "ultimate" IMO.

Youtube Reviewer Sends Surface Book Back For Refund

I guess the inevitable conclusion is that some SB users are having all kinds of problems and some are not. And I suppose which camp one finds oneself in depends on all kinds of variables, including configuration, build date, installed applications, usage patterns, and other factors. However...

Youtube Reviewer Sends Surface Book Back For Refund

On the contrary, Lon's review is absolutely representative of the utter frustration that many of us have experienced with our Surface Books. His review is also a refreshing change from the multiple fanboy reviews that gloss over all the myriad Surface Book bugs as being either unimportant or...

Youtube Reviewer Sends Surface Book Back For Refund

I feel very similarly to the OP, although my SB problems have been completely different. My Surface Book is a buggy piece of crap for which I paid an exorbitant price. Every day something different doesn't work, and every update fixes one problem and creates another. I'm almost amused to see...

    Surface Book Behaving Better

Naturally, I spoke too soon. The most recent updates have resulted in my screen not auto-rotating when detached (after being perfect), Windows Hello working sporadically (again, after working perfectly), and display brightness spontaneously changing to 100% (despite whatever it is set to in...

    SB doesn't Autorotate when detached?

Mine seems to be okay if it only sleeps, but if it hibernates then it's a crap shoot whether auto-rotate works or not. I can tell when it's not going to work, because pressing the detach button takes too long, it lights up red, and the green pop up doesn't appear. It detaches, and the...

    SB doesn't Autorotate when detached?

That's bizarre, because my auto-rotate was working flawlessly UNTIL Tuesday's update.

Camera does not turn on during startup after update

I'm now having this problem again as well. Windows Hello does not come on as it should. The tablet does not auto rotate after being detached. The screen brightness often increases to 100% even though on the display settings it shows 50% or 75%. After having things more or less okay for a few...

    SB doesn't Autorotate when detached?

I am now having this same problem. If I detach the screen, it does not auto-rotate. Something is weird, because the detach function now operates strangely. Usually, I push the button, the green key light comes on, the green sign pops up, and I hear the click. Now, the red key light comes on...

    Early Adopters...

Based on my experience with the SB, I would be very wary about buying any new product from Microsoft. I feel that the launch of the SB was executed very poorly and, worse, was done with the full knowledge that customers would experience the specific problems that many of us have experienced. My...

Camera does not turn on during startup after update

Tip: I know this stuff about hiberfil.sys because I was running into problems on another computer with disk space, and I discovered that turning off hibernate and deleting the hiberfil.sys file allowed me to save about 13Gb of disk space. Not bad if you're not using hibernate anyways.

Camera does not turn on during startup after update

Fast startup does not apply to hibernate or restart - only to a cold startup. What fast startup does on a cold startup is similar to hibernate - the cold startup is faster because the computer saves the kernel to hiberfil.sys before it shuts down, thus making startup faster. But fast startup is...

Camera does not turn on during startup after update

Fast startup is basically the same as hibernate, and it only applies to a cold boot (not a restart). Fast startup saves an image of the Windows kernel to hiberfil.sys, so your system can simply load the file back into RAM when the computer starts up again. Note that my Windows Hello is working...

Camera does not turn on during startup after update

No, I had that problem, but I have since been able to get the camera to work on a cold boot. Have you tried removing Windows Hello completely, cold booting, then setting up Windows Hello again from scratch? Have you tried running the Windows Troubleshooter (control panel) for Hardware and...
