    SB doesn't Autorotate when detached?

After 20 years of Hibernate, Microsoft still can't get it to work properly. Not even on their flagship "ultimate laptop".

    SB doesn't Autorotate when detached?

I was able to fix the auto-rotate issue (screen will not auto-rotate after being detached) by setting all power settings to Sleep (instead of Hibernate). Having not experienced the problem for just over a week, I decided to set the lid close action from Sleep back to Hibernate, to see if the...

    Camera does not turn on

Here's a good thread with all the solutions to date. Camera does not turn on during startup after update Start with the easiest solution (remove Windows Hello and set it up again). Then try running the hardware troubleshooter in Windows control panel. That worked for me. Then you can try...

    SurfaceBook Crashes/Shutdowns during sleep

That is definitely not true. I am up to date on all updates and I definitely have both sleep and hibernate available on my SB. If I use hibernate, then I have the problem where the screen does not auto-rotate after being detached (since the 3/22 updates). If I use sleep, then I have sporadic...

    SurfaceBook Crashes/Shutdowns during sleep

When you do the DSIM procedure, does that remove all of your programs and settings? Is it basically a Windows restore?

    SurfaceBook Crashes/Shutdowns during sleep

Sleep is a mess with the Surface Book. I have to set my SB to Sleep instead of Hibernate, because otherwise I cannot detach the screen and have it auto-rotate half the time. However, with Sleep you basically have to shut down the SB if you won't be using it, because it doesn't really sleep...

When's the next set of Surface firmware updates?

I think it may also be related to troubleshooting. It seems that each update causes certain problems on specific machines, but solves the same problems on other machines. For example, the 3/22 updates caused the auto-rotate problem to occur on my SB, but fixed the same problem for other people.

When's the next set of Surface firmware updates?

The 2/17 update fixed a bunch of stuff for me, and then the 3/22 update broke a bunch of stuff. I'm looking forward to the next update to fix the stuff that the 3/22 update broke.

    SB doesn't Autorotate when detached?

I basically leave my SB on all the time - either plugged in overnight or unplugged and sleeping (when not in use) during the day. I don't see any need to turn it off. If I needed to conserve battery power, I would shut it down when not in use. For me a cold boot takes about as long with Fast...

    SB doesn't Autorotate when detached?

I have not noticed any issues from disabling Fast Startup, although I do not shutdown very often. I tend to leave my SB on all the time. The only issue I see from setting everything to sleep instead of hibernate is some battery drain while asleep (e.g. 15% overnight). In hibernate, I get almost...

    SB doesn't Autorotate when detached?

With everything set to Sleep, and Fast Startup disabled, I have not had the auto-rotate problem for a few days now. It's a welcome relief. I do get some noticeable battery drain while the SB is sleeping (15% overnight), but I can live with that for now.

    SB doesn't Autorotate when detached?

It's funny for me having to go back and forth between Hibernate (which has basically been a disaster in every version of Windows), and Sleep (which has been a disaster with the Surface Book in particular). That's why it's pretty much a choice between syphilis and gonorrhea. At the moment, the...

    SB doesn't Autorotate when detached?

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be snarky to you at all. No offence intended. I was just giving my thoughts on Windows Hibernate and Sleep over the years and with the SB. My comment was not aimed at you - sorry if I offended you. Edit: In fact, I very much appreciate the tip about Sleep instead of...

    SB doesn't Autorotate when detached?

Picking Sleep or Hibernate is like picking which STD you want to get. After a decade of persistent issues with Hibernate, many of us immediately turned off Hibernate on every Windows computer. Then, we encountered all the Sleep issues with the Surface Book (hot bag, no wake, freezes, battery...

    Specifications Advice

If you won't tolerate bugs, then I would say the SB is not for you. It may be good one day, but it has lots of bugs now, and has had lots of bugs since it launched. MS appears to be trying to fix the bugs, but every time they fix one they seem to create another. I love the SB in theory...

    SB doesn't Autorotate when detached?

I now believe this issue (no auto-rotate after detaching) is related to Hibernate. When all button/lid settings are set to Sleep, and none to Hibernate, the issue seems to go away. This would also explain why some people have had relief by turning off Fast Startup, since that feature is based...

Camera does not turn on during startup after update

Try Control Panel, Troubleshooting, Hardware, and run the troubleshooter. Then reboot. That fixed most of my camera problems, although not a bunch of other problems (auto-rotate after detach, screen brightness).

    SB doesn't Autorotate when detached?

I can confirm that the failure to auto-rotate after detaching occurs without any apps being loaded. I have just had it occur with nothing but the Windows 10 desktop. When working properly, the detach key lights up red for a fraction of a second and then turns green. The green "ready to detach"...

Black Screen and Won't Wake - KB Hot Fix posted

My wake-from-sleep problem is much better now than it was before the 2/17/16 updates. I think I have only had one or two times where I got the dreaded black screen, keyboard lights, need to hard power down. Other than that though, hardly a day goes by where I don't have one problem or another...
