Microsoft pushes out new Surface UEFI and Firmware October updates

I ran the DISM process with the /RestoreHealth option, and it said that it completed successfully. I will report back on whether it fixed my problems.

Microsoft pushes out new Surface UEFI and Firmware October updates

I should also say that I think my two problems may in fact be the same problem. That is, my SB simply freezes randomly. That would explain it freezing in the middle of a lecture (when no input or output is occurring) and, statistically, it would make it more likely that it would occur at some...

Microsoft pushes out new Surface UEFI and Firmware October updates

Thanks for the suggestion. I ran the DSIM with both /CheckHealth and /ScanHealth options, and they both came back with "No component store corruption detected". I presume that means there is nothing to be gained by running DSIM with the /RestoreHealth option. I also ran SFC /SCANNOW and it...

Microsoft pushes out new Surface UEFI and Firmware October updates

Correct - I wouldn't want to go to two devices, and the screen of the iPad is a bit small for me. To be honest, the form factor and advertised function of the SB are perfect for me. If my SB was reliable, it would be perfect. Unfortunately, reliability is the most important feature to me, and...

Microsoft pushes out new Surface UEFI and Firmware October updates

I have never owned an Apple product, with the exception of an iPod Nano (which is awesome). However, my wife has an iPhone and my son has an iPhone and a Macbook Pro, which they both love. Given the experience I have had with the Surface Book, I would consider trying the Macbook Pro. My needs...

Freezing, Black Screen, Generally a POS

If Microsoft was concerned about its reputation, it would have put out a solid product in the first place. Microsoft deserves the reputation it gets for this product.

Freezing, Black Screen, Generally a POS

I was hoping that the most recent October firmware updates might have fixed my SB issues, but alas no. Everything was working nicely for a couple of days. Then, this morning, after leaving the SB plugged in and on all night with the lid closed, I unplugged it and took it to class. When I opened...

Hi, new member here, planning to jump on the surface book wagon soon

I'm not a Mac guy, so I can't comment directly on the comparison between the SB and the Mac. However, I would not recommend the SB to anyone. My experience with my SB has been one of frustration and disappointment. From what I have heard, the Macs just work. They may have the odd glitch, but...

Microsoft pushes out new Surface UEFI and Firmware October updates

I would be very happy if this update put an end to my Surface Book spontaneously freezing. My Surface Book becomes unresponsive for no reason about once every day. Sometimes it is in the middle of doing work, but more often it is overnight when no programs are running and the lid is closed. Very...

    Sleep issues ... again (sigh)

So much for that idea. The last two days my SB was black when I opened it up in the morning, forcing a hard shut down and reboot, and my bluetooth mouse was turned off the whole time. Microsoft, if you are listening, please fix the SB so it does not crash in the middle of the night. There are...

    Sleep issues ... again (sigh)

For the last couple of days, I have made sure my ARC Touch Mouse Surface Edition is turned off before going to bed (by unbending it). My SB has woken properly from sleep since I started doing that. It might be a coincidence - we'll see.

    Sleep issues ... again (sigh)

When I close the lid on my SB, plugged in or not, and come back to it several hours later or in the morning, the chances are 50/50 whether it will spring back to life or just do nothing. When it does nothing, I have to hold the power button down for 30 seconds, then do a cold boot. It doesn't...

    Sleep issues ... again (sigh)

Thanks for the reply. It seems to be better now, but as you say it was so sporadic that it's kind of hard to know. There was another cumulative update shortly after the anniversary update, and I wonder if that fixed the issue for me. I have not had the issue in probably a week now, so fingers...

    Sleep issues ... again (sigh)

When I purchased my SB back in October of 2015, it was plagued with sleep/hibernate issues. Failing to wake from sleep, getting hot during sleep, battery draining during sleep, Windows Hello not working after sleep, etc., etc. It was very, very frustrating trying to work with a computer when it...

    Clipboard detach issues

I don't think this is normal. My SB waits for 10 seconds (not 4), and then, if the screen is not detached, it simply shows the green "Attached" sign again. No red light, no error message. I think that's normal. The only time I have seen the red light on the detach button was when the...

Windows Hello Face Recognition Not Working

I would try turning off Windows Hello, rebooting without it on, and then turning it on again and trying to go through the set up. If that doesn't work, I would consider removing the camera driver and reinstalling it.

MS releases Updated Firmware and Drivers - August 30, 2016

It is truly remarkable that Microsoft cannot get their flagship operating system to work reliably or properly on their own (very expensive) hardware. I have a $600 Asus laptop that runs Windows 10 with fewer problems than my surface book.

MS releases Updated Firmware and Drivers - August 30, 2016

My SB was finally working properly after the April updates, and now I am back to having problems. I have the dreaded hot bag issue again, and I cannot believe that MS wants to force me to swipe or click away the useless lock screen every time my SB wakes from sleep. What a terrible product...

Cannot disable lock screen after Ann Update

Having done some more research, it does appear that MS has removed the ability to disable the lock screen from Windows 10 Home and Pro, although it remains for the Enterprise and Education versions. There are other policies which have also been removed. There are a couple of hacks I have found...

    Anniversary update...disable lock screen?

Same problem here. After the AU, I can no longer disable the useless lock screen when the computer wakes from sleep. Editing the group policy doesn't work. Setting NoLockScreen in regedit doesn't work. So annoying.
