Microsoft offers an extended warranty called "Microsoft Complete" that you can purchase for most of their products.

This is why we bought Microsoft Complete for my SP3, and everything else, i.e.-my Lumia phone, our XBox One, etc. I like to have peace of mind.

IMO, it's because for the SP3 to truly be a laptop replacement, you have to have the typecover.
