SP3 heating and fan keeps running

Are you running an i5 or i7? I have an i7 and have not had any problems running Chrome, although it does tend to use more resources. Actually I like that even in desktop mode Chrome supports swiping to go forward and back like in MUI IE. I would agree tho, stick with MUI IE if you can.

You can but it is not always close enough to your computer.

Custom Fan - Get More From Your SP3!

I added a link to the original thread with testing in the OP. The fan is really meant to blow the hot air inside the unit out and keep the external temp sensor from throttling the device. The link to the fan at newegg.com say 37db, I might be able to post a video of it running later. It's...

Custom Fan - Get More From Your SP3!

An even cheaper solution than my duct is this Arctic Breeze usb fan. I have not tested nor seen the results using this so I don't know how it compares but it should help. See a video of it in action here. And some discussion here. Regardless of which you go with I'd like to see the community...

Custom Fan - Get More From Your SP3!

Newest Version: SP3 Duct 2.0 After many iterations and trials the SP3 Duct is ready to cool your SP3! I have been working over the last couple weeks to make a duct that will work with an off-the-shelf fan that will reduce throttling and help us consumers realize the full power within the SP3...

    Custom Fan to Reduce Throttling

To update you guys, here are the results from a few tests last night and this morning: For this test I rand the XTU CPU load test at my home and after the TDP dropped to 10W I plugged in the fan. The CPU test starts after the first spiked drop in temp on the left and you can probably tell when...

    Custom Fan to Reduce Throttling

No offence but let people do what they want with their stuff. If mohcho wants to strap a heatsink to his SP3, let him. I for one won't be but that's my prerogative.

    Custom Fan to Reduce Throttling

The problem with a heatsink is that the thermal transfer will never be adequate enough unless you use a thermal compound which would make using it a little inconvenient. But don't let me talk you out of it, see what you can do.

    Custom Fan to Reduce Throttling

I've actually tried this with a copper heatsink and it did get warm but provided no real performance boost plus its much heavier and bulkier than a fan but it does use less power ;)

    Custom Fan to Reduce Throttling

I should also note that the graphs were playing Skyrim. On a different topic, when I use the fan I have yet to hear the internal fan reach max RPM (even under max load) which effectively reduces the noise level of the unit.

    Custom Fan to Reduce Throttling

I didn't post any of those details because I didn't want to bore everyone but if you guys want to see them, I am happy to oblige. A few caveats, these tests were done at my work where the building is kept at a nice 72F and I sit right under the AC which if I run the test at home where I keep...

    Custom Fan to Reduce Throttling

Most boards and their components are made to withstand this high of a temp and should not be a problem (keep in mind that 90C is die temp and not surrounding components). The throttling problems the SP3 was having was due to an external (to the proc) temp reaching some value (that we don't...
