Good catch on the updates after the install. I installed 8.1 and everything went well. I didn't even think to look and see if there were further updates available. As you mentioned, so far uneventful. I need to play around some more to see how much of a difference 8.1 makes.

I installed the 8.1 preview tonight. While it was doing the update, my SP did get warmer than usual. I suspect it was because it was a large, 2.5gb, download and upgrade. Since it has finished, my temps are back to normal. I haven't had any temp warming at all. The upgrade went well...

I've had no limited connection issues since the update. I've problems before when moving from one hotspot to another. When moving, the wifi connection wouldn't release and connect to the new one. I would have to either reset the adapter or restart several times before it would connect...

I didn't install the new drivers and I still got the Firmware upgrade yesterday. My SP also did about 3 restarts so I'm not sure why the OP's SP didn't reboot.

Sorry to hear you are having so many issues. I don't have any problems with my Pro. I've had it since day one and I've never had a BSOD, app crash, or any type of crash. Maybe you have a defective unit. Try and see if they will swap it out for you.

I love my Surface RT. But, I will get getting the Pro when it comes out. I need the digitizer and full Outlook version to have the perfect tablet. I'm trying to find a way to justify keeping both tablets but I'm not finding one. Sadly, I will return the RT. Maybe.
