I just want to use my monitor

Yeah the only advantage is the cabling and convenience of not having to plug in multiple cables. Ideally, the dock would have two mDP receptacles built-in, but unfortunately it only has one.

I just want to use my monitor

Telstar, There is no inherent technical advantage of using an MST hub vs a DP1.2 compliant daisy-chain monitor with DP in and DP out ports. From an aesthetic viewpoint, using the daisy-chain monitor is superior because there are fewer cables and power supplies to manage. Early gen MST hubs had...

    SP3 as output for xbox360\ONE

There are some options. You can use a generic video capture device like this: http://www.startech.com/AV/Converters/Audio/USB-2-HD-PVR-Gaming-and-Video-Capture-Device-1080p-HDMI-Component~USB2HDCAP To give the Surface an "innie" via USB. There are also some network software solutions to create...

    Use as an alarm clock

Oh yeah good point. OK I think I found a better solution. No Visual Studio required: powercfg /change hibernate-timeout-dc 600 That ought to keep the machine in connectedStandby mode for 10 hours on DC power instead of automatically timing out and hibernating after 4. If you enable-hyper-V or...

I just want to use my monitor

Agreed I doubt most people are messing with drivers. I bet most people are not as observant as you and me or are either not dragging windows across from the Surface screen to the 1080p desktop screen or are simply ignoring the Surface screen. I think the Surface screen is awesome and would hate...

    Use as an alarm clock

Ben, try using task scheduler. https://duckduckgo.com/?q=windows task scheduler alarm clock There are a few guides that cover the scenarios better than I ever could. It may be possible to do this in a friendly modern app without disabling power management features, but you probably have to...

Turn off bluetooth from command line

Neat problem. I learned a lot trying to figure this one out just now. Sorry this is such a hassle for you btw. Its frustrating when this stuff just doesn't work the way you want. This problem isn't really specific to Surface, so you might have better luck on MSDN or answers.microsoft.com. But...

Using the dock with two different Surface Pro 3's

This is not intended behavior. The docks are universal and no settings are stored in the dock that tie it to a particular Surface Pro 3 tablet as far as I am aware. Are you using a USB keyboard or the built-in Surface keyboard to login? Can you try a different keyboard? If using USB, try...

I just want to use my monitor

Try this workaround: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/danchar/archive/2014/11/01/high-dpi-multi-mon-with-surface-pro-3-dpi-scaling-tweaks.aspx If you have 21.5" screens, it is a slam dunk. For other screen sizes YMMV. When you have the external monitor attached is the SP3 screen or external screen set...

    PowerPoint scaling issues

Doug, When you have the external monitor attached is the SP3 screen or external screen set as the "primary"? Whatever setting you have now, switch it: - right-click on desktop - screen resolution - click the display you want to be primary and click the checkbox "make this my main display" -you...

    Monitor scaling adjustment on Docking

Donald, this is an excellent observation/feature request and something that folks at MS are looking into for upcoming Windows releases. There are some engineering tradeoffs with how to properly handle varying dpi per monitor and something that seems as simple as "just make it a bit bigger on...

    Monitors

I suggest a 21.5" IPS monitor instead of 23". It will pair MUCH better with the Surface. Please see: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/danchar/archive/2014/11/01/high-dpi-multi-mon-with-surface-pro-3-dpi-scaling-tweaks.aspx

    Resolution Scaling

Ndanjou, Some games are designed for specific monitor aspect ratios (16:9, 5:4, etc.) Surface is 3:2 which is not a popular aspect ratio. For some multi-player games, having a different aspect ratio and presenting additional game content may be a competitive advantage, so some games may limit...

Is the USB port able to power a USB monitor?

In the USA you can use a universal "figure 8" accessory power cord like this: http://www.amazon.com/standard-compatible-Replacement-Electronic-Figure-8/dp/B0058FN6V2 For UK maybe this would work? http://www.amazon.com/Tattoo-Machine-Supply-Figure-8-Connector/dp/B00IK23HNW For EU...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optimum_HDTV_viewing_distance#Human_visual_system_limitation Julian, thanks for the feedback. What issues did this pose for you? I can file tickets directly with Intel if there are any problems. You only need to install the 3621 driver to get the custom...

touchscreen stopped working on upper half of screen

Hi Behzat, is either one of the hinges for the flipstand making a clicking noise too? I heard of one report where one hinge broke and at the same time, one region of the touch screen stopped working. I believe the n-trig touch controller is in three separate regions. If one of the wires to one...

    disable windows button vibration feedback?

Oh I guess that just disables the button, not the haptic feedback. I think haptic feedback is controlled by one of the devices under - "human interface devices" but I'm not sure which one. You can try disabling them one by one to find it. But watch out you might disable the keyboard...
