Sitting docked the black Surface screen just sat there, no turning dots. I did the 30 second close down but nothing changed. Dud the volume rocker thing, but the same result. Finally I undocked it and then it would boot as it should. Weird!

Pen usually works fine with SP. The best is those made out of glass but they are more expensive.

If the glare bothers you (OP) you might consider an anti-glare screen protector, quality suffers marginally but you'll be able to watch it in bright sun light.

Another setting to consider is if you should use different languages in different windows, otherwise when opening a new window it will open it in your primary language.
