I am also a developer, using Visual Studio 2013, web/desktop/mobile development etc.
It doesn't matter the hyper-v is enabled (for emulators etc.) or not, coming back from hibernation will put wifi to limited connectivity, or even worse, no wifi network found, have to reboot the computer...
I am planning to get ANOTHER windows 8 11-12'' tablet with atom baytrail for cheaper price, couldn't find one that I am happy with, too bad... the eco system of windows tablet is really bad.
Finally I think I should get a sp3 i3 version.
sorry guys, maybe my movie player misled me, when I open the movie, it tells me the size is 619p (86%), so I just assumed that in full screen, it will resize to no more than 720p....
we all know we can use "Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display" to change the size of all items.
the native resolution of sp3 is 1440p, we increase the sizing to 200%, so it's "actually" 720p , by the time we play a movie, a 720p movie will be not resizing, but if we play a 1080p...
I bought one, my wife uses it all the time, I barely could get my hangs on it.:D
She is happy with it, far lighter than her old laptop, much more portable, a lot snappier, and, most important, the battery is more than doubled
I am a seasoned developer, most of my friends are developers too, some of them owned surface pro 1 all the way to surface pro 3.
for development, the sp3/8g/256g is enough, even you can run virtual machine / emulator with no headache.
my developer friends who use sp3, all say it is good for...
totally agree with the "never a perfect time to buy", always something new and tempting.
for me sp3 is already very good, and for upgrade, maybe sp6, but for another one, sp4 is enough
I already got the sp3 (i5/8g/256g), but it is mainly being used my wife to replace the old laptop.
I would like to buy another one.
Just out of curiosity, checked the surface pro product timeline:
