    The Kickstand is GREAT, however.......

This new protective case doesn't go on sale until early August, but it may be nice and has an "infinity hinge" that sounds like it will give more angles than the built-in kickstand, http://www.stmbags.com/catalog/bags-for-tablets/dux-for-Microsoft-Surface-3/

    The Kickstand is GREAT, however.......

Since there is no fan on the Surface 3, it needs to be able to cool by heat escaping through the built-in case. Insulating it inside a protective case that prevents heat from escaping and trying to get maximum performance out of it at the same time may not work out very well.

    kickstand: S3 vs SP3

No. I don't want to test breaking the kickstand.

    kickstand: S3 vs SP3

I find 3 positions lacking since there is no shallow angle for touch screen typing, but it wasn't a deal breaker. It would have been better if there was one lower angle or else a kickstand that moves to any position just like the Surface Pro 3.

sync from Surface 3 google calendar app.

Is it really a "Metro version" of Chrome or just regular old x86 Chrome running in a pseudo full screen mode from the Start screen?

    I would pay $1000 for a Surface 3 if...

Anything is possible. They could make the next Pro in 2 sizes. 10.8 inch Core M for maximum portability and better battery life and a larger quadhd Broadwell Core i7 for people wanting maximum power and screen resolution. Making a 10.8 Pro would probably make more sense than a 10.8 inch...

    I would pay $1000 for a Surface 3 if...

Not true. The 64GB model just comes with 4GB RAM instead of 2GB. There is no model with more the 4GB RAM or more than 128GB storage and the storage isn't any faster. The commercial model also gives you Windows 8.1 Pro instead of a free year of Office 365.

Surface 3 drive encryption in Win 8.1

The main thing is that there is no option to enable this other type of encryption without a Microsoft account with admin privileges on the Surface and you are forced to save the recovery data to OneDrive. With Bitlocker, you can enable it even if you never use a Microsoft account and you can...

Surface 3 drive encryption in Win 8.1

There is no bitlocker to enable on 8.1 Core. There is only a different version of drive encryption that requires a Microsoft account. You must log in with a Microsoft account with administrator privileges to activate device encryption on 8.1 Core. You need 8.1 Pro to enable bitlocker encryption...

Surface 3 drive encryption in Win 8.1

I don't think the drive is encrypted "by default." You need to first log into the Surface using a Microsoft account with administrator access and then save the recovery key to One Drive.

Micro USB Port - A Poor Design?

It is easy to make mistakes plugging in the cable when you first get the Surface (mini display port is "similar" in size as the micro usb port), but it is also easy to figure it out after the first couple of mistakes. Just look at where the Windows logo is and make a note of where the port is...

    LTE or not LTE?

Sprint compatibility is not going to happen, It is Verizon and T-Mobile only. If it can work with later model Verizon iPads which can be also work with GSM LTE carriers, it should also be possible for something similar to be done with a Surface, The tablets are LTE data only, so they don't...

What is the trick to get it charging?

Maybe there is a USB-related bug. I have no charging problems, but I have never used the USB port for anything.

    Surface 3 Charging

Surface 4 will probably have Type-C next year since the cheap ASUS T100HA is getting it this year.

Who has an SP3 and S3 and considers it acceptable to have both?

Sounds defective or else something is running in the background putting a heavy load on the processor.

Who has an SP3 and S3 and considers it acceptable to have both?

Not sure if there are charging "problems" other than being picky about which non-OEM chargers and cables charge at reasonably fast speeds. Once you use the correct cables and chargers, it charges fine. You can always stick with the OEM cable and power brick for the least hassle. With a SP3, you...

Best way to carry Surface Pen?

Clipping the pen to the keyboard has not prevented me from typing. I only remove the pen when I want to use it. The only issue I could imagine is if you wanted to take the Surface somewhere without the keyboard and you wanted to still use the pen, you would need to have another place to put the pen.

Why do reviewers insist on including price of keyboard in review?

There are some existing cheaper keyboards that work well. This one looks nice and allows portrait mode as bonus. The Surface Type Cover has certain advantages over cheaper keyboards, but it is false to say the Surface 3 is not usable without the Microsoft proprietary $129 keyboard. I would...

Best way to carry Surface Pen?

Why use a pen loop stuck to the keyboard with adhesive when you can just clip the pen to the keyboard?

Who has an SP3 and S3 and considers it acceptable to have both?

If you have enough money spend, you can blow as much money as you want on as many separate devices as your want. If you "need" the extra power of a Surface Pro while mobile, it makes more sense to just buy that and deal with the extra ounces of weight vs a Surface 3. Another choice would be a...
