    SurfaceForums.net Site Software Upgrade

For Tapatalk users, I think if you delete the forum, kill the software and redo the subscription to here, it will all work. I had to do that with satelliteguys when they shifted to this same software.

Local vs. Microsoft account- why or why not

Thanks for the info. I hadn't actually noticed a way to do it. While that isn't exactly what I'd prefer, it is handy enough. I now see how to do it in the 'modernUI' version of IE, but haven't quite found that in the desktop version.

Local vs. Microsoft account- why or why not

I use my MS account. Let me clarify how/what I do. I'm cross-platform on a daily basis and only recently started using Windows again because of the SurfacePro. Prior to that, everything I did was on Apple gear. There contacts are maintained across the ecosystem which allows me to make...

Local vs. Microsoft account- why or why not

They may be there, but the 'modern' version doesn't use them. Here's my beef. If I use Skype from anywhere or on any platform, it should see all my contacts that each version sees. It doesn't.

Local vs. Microsoft account- why or why not

While I do use the MS syncing and love it, I also use Apple's and like it better for all things except for the lack of cloud file storage. MS' ecosystem is lacking in one major thing from my POV. And that is contacts and various apps. With Apple contacts is contacts is contacts and are...

    Surface Care Team doesn't care

Boy, your experience with Apple doesn't match mine in any way. I live in rural southern Illinois and there is not nor probably will there ever be an Apple Store here. All my interactions over the years has been via phone or chat and has been excellent. The last was with an Airport Extreme...

    Surface Care Team doesn't care

Yeah, customer service of the excellent kind is becoming more of a rarity these days. In MS' case, they are selling an excellent product at a premium price but not offering premium customer service to go with it. That is a huge disparity between what MS thinks is great service and what Apple...

    Microsoft Complete

For a physical damage claim I think it is $50. For regular failure repair I don't think there is one.

    Microsoft Complete

I bought it because it seems the fixes are all a replacement. That said other than on paper it isn't anywhere near as good as Applegate based on the feedback on various forums. To me that is a big issue as the Surface Pro line is being sold as a premium product. MS needs to step up their...

What does the Touch cover feel like

I tried the touch cover. It takes some getting used to as there is no tactile feedback as you type. It wasn't horrible and I could have used it as I had a similar keyboard on an Atari 400 computer many long years ago. If you've never used one, I imagine it would take some time to get used to.

Find my Friends & iMessage - new Surface user

The desktop version of Skype for Windows is better than the 'modern UI' version. Damned modern version won't even import MS contacts!! :(

    A bit of a dilemma

I can see the difference if I put them side by side, and the lower resolution of the T100 means some software looks slightly different but it isn't really noticeable for most things. What little I give up in screen look is more than made up for by the big weight difference and vastly longer...

    NewsgroupsRT - usenet client

A bit of follow up. NewsgroupsRT has been steadily updated since my first post. It is still a rather light duty reader, but now woks quite well. Today 'hide read' messages was added. I find it very useful these days.

Does your auto-update work? If so, how?

That's a good question. Auto updates seem to be a bit hit or miss.

    A bit of a dilemma

Since you read a lot, note that there are Kindle and Nook apps for Windows that work quite well on the SurfacePro. That said, I find the size of the screen a bit more than I want in a reader so I tend to use either my iPad Mini or Nook e-ink readers more for that.

Tablet Version of Microsoft Office Coming to Android Before Windows 8 Tablets

For those that haven't used the iOS version of MS Office, it ain't perzackly the same thing as the full fledged version on Windows. It is missing lots of things that power Office users would like. I fully expect the Android version to be the same. If/when MS does come out with a real touch...

    A bit of a dilemma

When I decided I wanted a Win8/8.1 tablet, I looked at the SurfacePro and Pro 2 and the ASUS T100. Ended up getting both the SurfacePro (not 2) and the ASUS T100. I find the T100 to be my lap goto machine as it is very light and has superb battery life. Nothing on it prevents me from doing...

Surface Pro as a desktop replacmenet

OK, figgered it all out. Ran the airport utility on the Mac to see what was connected to which unit and at what speed. Both the SurfacePro and the Asus T100TA were connecting to the 2.4Ghz side of things. So after doing some research, I set a new name for the 5Ghz side of things on the...

Surface Pro as a desktop replacmenet

Aha, I missed your comments direction!! :( My wireless networking is a dual-channel Airport Extreme, so both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz are available, but I have no clue how to see what the SP is connecting to.

Surface Pro as a desktop replacmenet

The keyboard is the Type Cover. The Logitech T650 uses a USB dongle to communicate with,no idea of what frequency it uses but there isn't a choice for it. More I look at it, it seems that on my 4Gb RAM configured SP I may have too many things open which causes some of the lag. Of course, I...
