CNET Prizefight: SP3 vs. 13" MacBook Air

The iPads are repairable though probably not user repairable.

    SurfacePro + Power Cover = FRUSTRATION!!! :(

Well what a difference a day makes! Diddling around on Ebay turned up a Power Cover for less than $100 with free shipping. Took a flyer on it and this one came in and works flawlessly. Charging now and should all be fully charged in about an hour and a half. Oddly when I plugged it in, it got...

    SurfacePro + Power Cover = FRUSTRATION!!! :(

I sent back the power cover to the Ebay seller and they refunded the money as they didn't have any more to send. Since then, and after reading a few posts here, I've decided to not spend the money on one. I already have 2 of the MS power supplies for the SP, one in the tech/music room and one...

CNET Prizefight: SP3 vs. 13" MacBook Air

I wasn't surprised about that, the SP3 and previous SPs have a lot to like about them. But overall the MBA is a better laptop and not a tablet at all. I have an SP (original) 128Gb which I use as a tablet almost all the time, it is just so handy. When I had the Air it wasn't so good while in...

    Modern Word Processor Discussion Thread

Instead of 'beta' testing for free, why not do what I did and just buy it now? It costs less than you probably spend at the coffee shop! That's how you encourage developers.

    SurfacePro + Power Cover = FRUSTRATION!!! :(

That's where I got mine. The seller said he would replace it and I've sent the original one back to him. IF the replacement doesn't work then I'll approach MS via the extended warranty to see if they will take care of it. It didn't occur to me that MS might replace the bad one under a warranty.

    SurfacePro + Power Cover = FRUSTRATION!!! :(

Thanks. Must be a bad PC as that didn't fix it. I'll make arrangements to get it swapped out.

    SurfacePro + Power Cover = FRUSTRATION!!! :(

Got my Power Cover yesterday. Connected it to the SP, nada. Not recognized as being there at all. Not as a keyboard and certainly not as an additional battery. Did all the things MS suggested to make it work, including virginizing the SP and starting from scratch. Spent an entire day and...

    NewsgroupsRT - usenet client

The developer of NewsgroupsRT keeps working on it and improving it. It is well worth the $1.49 I paid for it, and has come a long way from what it started from. New bells and whistles have been added and the speed is much improved. And it beats the heck out of trying to use a desktop Usenet...

Oops, that one isn't free. Do a search on Usenet providers free, and you should get plenty of hits.

    NewsgroupsRT - usenet client

Hard to give a link as there are quite a few Usenet providers. But here's a link to a free, text groups only provider. http://individual.net

    NewsgroupsRT - usenet client

Usenet is one of the oldest forms of discussion forums. These days it is probably only used by about 10% of internet users. You need a newsreader or Usenet client to access it, or use some web interface to it, like Google groups. While some of the discussion forums are moderated, most are not...

    NewsgroupsRT - usenet client

Sorry for not asking this earlier. What do you mean by 'un-securable for the Owner'? And why should I care? While I do participate in non-usenet web forums, and have even used GoogleGroups on occasion, I still participate in quite a few usenet forums, I like the wild and wooly nature of usenet.

    Modern Word Processor Discussion Thread

Interesting approach. Overall I like it and just bought it. Not so much that I'll use it a lot, but I like to encourage more software for the 'modern UI'. Great start, I look forward to seeing how it develops as you improve it.

    Dinosaur

I'm like you, I looked at the SP3 and was enamored, but $1K US is a bit much to spend on what would actually be just another tech toy, although a very nice one! So instead of spending that much, I just ordered a Power Cover off Ebay. The extra weight won't make a difference to me, but I'll...

    NewsgroupsRT - usenet client

Seems I'm the only one using Usenet among the forum members. Today a new update to this app was posted. Two mew things spotted 1. Filters 2. Ability to flag a thread This app has really matured and now makes for a very nice and powerful Usenet client.

Surface CD uploads without a driver; what to do?

Short answer is no, your friend cannot run that software on a SurfaceRT. The RT can only run the software that came with it, or that is obtained via the Microsoft Store app on his RT.

    SurfaceForums.net Site Software Upgrade

On my iPad all I had to do was delete the forum, stop the app and restart and add it back in. On the SurfacePro, I had to delete the forum, then delete the app and re-install it and add the forum back in. I guess some cache doesn't actually get wiped when you just delete and re-add the forum...
