Any way to keep dust out of the SP3?

Perhaps some sort of posted list of acceptable topics would help for those of us less in tune with the status quo. Then no one would have to be bothered to read (and respond) to such inane questions.

Custom Fan - Get More From Your SP3!

Haters gonna hate. Some people just confuse simple difference of opinion with one being right and the other wrong. Nice work on the mod, Cothek.

    Pushing Your Surface

It saw you post about considering exchanging it for a laptop and calculated that it was in its best interests to step in line. Seriously though, did you reboot after installing the latest updates? I wouldn't think standby would suffice for actually activating updates that you install.

I think returns are not checked enough before sent out as replacements

Take all of the negative reports you have read. Now multiply that by 10 (or even more) to account for those you haven't seen. Compare that number to the total number of units you might guess have been sold. We tend to see most of the complaints but *very* few of the success stories.

Any way to keep dust out of the SP3?

Now you're just being argumentative. Dust? Lint? Dog hair? Fine, by "dust" I meant to include any and all of the above. And I'm not being paranoid. I'm not worried. I was merely asking a simple question. As for qualifications - 18-years in IT and longer than that building, upgrading...

    Surface and the NFL

Microsoft has actually recommended "coaching" some of the game announcers, who keep referring to them as iPads. http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-microsoft-nfl-surface-ipad-20140913-story.html#page=1

Any way to keep dust out of the SP3?

Dust is dust and electronics actually attract it, so yes, the comparison is valid. You're kidding, right? They're not *that* small, and there is active air movement into the tablet. Dust doesn't "fall into" a device. It's pulled in. Again, your "falling dust" scenario doesn't hold water...

Any way to keep dust out of the SP3?

Well, I'll let you see for yourself, but there most certainly *is* an air intake portion in the vented area. Where would air come from to be exhausted, otherwise? Maybe you've never cracked a computer open before, but if you had, you would know that dust gets in and tends to collect fairly...

    Something "different" in newer builds...

By "lamp in the background" do you mean "lamp visible in the reflection"? Just curious.

Any way to keep dust out of the SP3?

Considering the fact that the SP3 is so thin, I would imagine dust could more likely become a problem at some point. I would also think the fact that the air intake vents are on the top would exacerbate this. Does anyone know of any available solutions on the market to address this? Any...

Poll How reliable is your SP3?

I think my computer habits are similar to yours. I just don't access obscure or suspicious content online. I just have neither a need nor desire for it. As such, I believe I have only experienced one, perhaps two, computer viruses in the past 15-years, and it has been many years since. I...

    Just curious...

If I'm not mistaken, I believe I read that enabling Hyper-V support (through "Add/Remove Windows Features") also enables a couple additional power profiles.

My first impressions with the sp3 i7, i'm an illustrator.

What?! No pitchforks and butt-hurt?? [Looking around to see if I'm still on the internet.] Seriously though, I couldn't agree more. It was a nice focused review.

    Multi desktop App

Huh. I was under the impression that left swipe showed all running apps. Waiting on my i7 upgrade unit to be delivered, so I can't test that for myself.

Poll How reliable is your SP3?

I have direct contact with nearly a hundred of the thousands of computers deployed at the company where I work. Identical machines (same exact hardware and same software image) will often behave differently. It's not that frequent, but the occasional workstation (HP business class) will just...

Here is an interesting comparison: i5 vs i7

Only if 4MB of L2 cache vs 3MB and a higher boost speed is not important to you. I don't encode video or render 3D objects on a tablet, but I *do* compile code - a process that generally takes less than 30-seconds with my projects. That is where the i7 will shine. Try multiple full seconds...

Beware of Bestbuy doing exchanges through their website

Luckily the people at my local Best Buy are really nice and helpful (some could use a bit more training, though). I returned my i5 SP3 and ordered the i7. They were really cool about it - even getting the difference in price added to my original 12-month interest-free financing deal. We...

Microsoft Complete: Unfairly Priced outside US?

Don't you Brits also pay like $6-7 per gallon for gas (petrol)? I'm not so sure the higher costs for this particular service is an "American goods sold overseas" thing, but I'm no expert on the matter.

    Multi desktop App

When I started reading this thread, it sounded like MS had removed ALT+TAB from Windows 8, but it evidently still works. Whew. Not sure what multiple desktops would add to that.

Local Best Buy no longer carries I7

I just returned my i5 to order an i7. As others have said, BB didn't have any i7's in stock, nor did any within 100 miles or so. The person at BB said that they just don't stock the i7 models in the stores, because they don't see a lot of them being sold that way. They figure that the people...
