January 14 patch updates and sleep issue

FYI. I've had sleep issues since installing the Jan 14th patches on my SP2 (4300u). It has stopped "idle" sleeping, meaning after the set amount of time in the Power plan's sleep setting has passed, it won't sleep. It will go to sleep fine if I close the Type Cover, push the power button, run...

Double tap screen to wake up from sleep.

No, this isn't a Nokia Lumia nor a Moto X phone. ;) I'd suspect your device isn't really sleeping if you wake it by tapping the screen. Check your event logs for ID 42, that will tell you all your sleep events. Look for "System Idle" in the description to see if your idle timer is working.

    KB 2911106 - Optional update?

This update, released Tuesday, seems pretty substantial. Yet it's labeled "optional"?? Anyone know why?

    Firmware Release Day Results Here

I rolled everything back and timed sleep is still screwed. That's really odd because supposedly 1/14's releases weren't hardware related, so I'm not sure how whatever they broke was not undone.

    Firmware update coming out tomorrow

I'd be a bit cautious. Somehow, yesterday's software updates messed up sleep on mine (w/4300u). Now it won't go to sleep on its own. Even after I rolled everything back.

    Firmware Release Day Results Here

Well, this a bit troubling. I've never had sleep problems before (SP2 w/4300u). Today after installing all the KB's, mine doesn't want to go to sleep on its own anymore. It does if I select it from the Power menu though.

What's your Power Plan set up like?

    Touchpad Settings

if that's what they call it, I suppose so. They seem a little bit non-obvious to me.

    Touchpad Settings

ClickLock works, with some difficulty. It seems there is only a particular spot on the Type Cover 2 that works. You'll know it though because there will be an artificial "click" through the speakers when hitting it. It's on the lower third of the pad and one has to push the pad, not just tap it...

    Touchpad Settings

yeah, this is quite disappointing. Especially considering the price point of the covers. So I hope for two things, it can actually be addressed in a firmware update and is not a hardware limitation, and some 3rd party considers making their own type cover with a good track pad.

Surface Pro 2, All Images Being Dithered?

It was a Best Buy purchase so I simply asked for the exchanged unit to be from lot numbers 1351 or higher. They happily complied.

    Built in screen protector

    Ditto for my two SP2's.

Surface Pro 2, All Images Being Dithered?

Wanted to close off this thread. Returned mine yesterday for another since I got no love from the Intel driver update. Lucky enough to get a 4300u in return (exceptional BB dude ;)). Video on this one is fine. I hope those of you who are holding out for next week's firmware update get a fix.

Surface Pro 2 1.9 CPU Lot Numbers

Lot #1351 with a 4300u in exchange for a #1341 from Best Buy. Had to get rid of the one with the low-rez video issue. I want to commend the service supervisor at the local BB. Not only was he aware of the speed bumped CPU, he actually went through two stock rooms to find a 1351 because at first...

    Surface Pro 2.5?

They'd be just as mouthy about it as Windows users. :) Apple sources from a number of vendors for drives and there is always a lot complaining about not getting which one is "better."

Surface Pro 2 1.9 CPU Lot Numbers

That's cool. I hope the Best Buy I exchange mine at for the video banding thing is as easy going about it. And now that it looks like lot #1350 is safe as well, that will make it easier on them to sort through.

Surface Pro 2 1.9 CPU Lot Numbers

Do we know for sure 1350 isn't the 4300u? So far I've only seen that 1351 has it.

    Surface Pro 2.5?

Mmm no... it's just a processor. If they changed any of the supporting chipsets I'd agree with you. I think the issues everyone is having is more related to drivers and firmware. The 4300u is just a slightly higher clocked 4200u with a bit of extra secure instructions. I haven't seen any other...

Do you have the lot # for that one? We should start making a list. Edit: see this thread.

    New firmware January 14th?

They likely pull the 3 out of 1000 number from "official" grievances. A lot of us with issues simpy b*tch here on forums, but don't register a complaint directly with MS.
