Why HD 4000 drivers from Microsoft are Outdated ?

The MS sanctioned driver has some issues with Photoshop and causes the driver itself to crash. The latest from Intel is more stable.

CPU seemingly stuck at 2.49 GHz since Jan. updates

CPU-Z indicates that with Hyper-V enabled, the CPU still is being throttled. Oddly enough, removing Hyper-V broke my idle sleep again. :(

CPU seemingly stuck at 2.49 GHz since Jan. updates

Wow. How are you getting 9:37 and I get 5:25?

CPU seemingly stuck at 2.49 GHz since Jan. updates

Hmmm. OK. I'll check on Hyper-V settings. Maybe that's what's hiding the processor state adjustments from the power control panel as well. Edit: yep, it was Hyper-V being enabled. Thanks!

CPU seemingly stuck at 2.49 GHz since Jan. updates

Here we go again. Was wondering why my battery life hasn't been so great lately (around 5:15 hours). Checked the Task Manager and my CPU seems to be pegged at max speed, 2.49 GHz. I went to check the minimum processor setting under the Advanced Power settings and guess what, there are no more...

January 14 patch updates and sleep issue

Update. Based on some threads I read of other wireless adapters, I tried turning off IPv6 in the network settings. Currently, idle sleep is functioning and I'll report back later if this is indeed a permanent solution.

    Dealing With Rapid Battery Drain

yeah, I've stopped everything I could think of: java updates, Adobe updates, Apple updaters etc. The top CPU munchers are: Aurora, Mail (app) and then Skype, which is trailing by a huge margin (the Task Mgr handily keeps track of that). Now that I've checked, the Mail app was constantly...

    Dealing With Rapid Battery Drain

my battery life seems to be solidly in the 5.5 hour range now; which is a bit disappointing. could have sworn I was getting closer to 7.5 when I first got it. maybe it's heavier use of Aurora as a browser.

Surface Pro 2, All Images Being Dithered?

Try saving the Lagom gradient as a local JPEG, then view it on the desktop with a photo/paint program and see what you get.

    Dealing With Rapid Battery Drain

My guess is he's referring to the Link State Power Management found in the current Power plan settings. You'll find it under the advanced settings in Power Options. PCI Express->Link State Power Management. Set it to Maximum Power Savings.

    Contrast problem with dark images

I had this issue with my first SP2, it appears to be a problem with either the video driver or video memory handling. It's like it is running at an 8-bit video depth rather than 32-bit. I tried a myriad of things to fix it on mine, but nothing worked. Some have had success by updating to...

    Dealing With Rapid Battery Drain

Yep. One can get around it by turning off Wi-Fi, then it will sleep on its own when idle. I've also found that falling back to a previous version of the Marvell Avastar driver (from last August) allows Wi-Fi to remain on. But, that version only permits idle sleep if Bluetooth is off. :( It all...

Surface Pro 2 vs other Win Tablets

I have a Samsung 500t, which is a Clover Trail based tablet with Wacom digitizing from last year. It's actually not bad, but very slow at a lot of tasks compared to the Core processors. I had been waiting and waiting for Samsung to announce Bay Trail and Haswell based replacements for their Ativ...

    Dealing With Rapid Battery Drain

While it does fix one aspect of the sleep issue, waking, some of us still have a problem with our SP2's not going to sleep when idle. Which seems to be tied to the radio and power management. :(

Surface Pro 2, All Images Being Dithered?

For those who have this issue, I'll be curious if the firmware released this week addresses this problem (since I no longer have one with that malady myself).

[IMPORTANT REMINDER] After you have installed the new update that fixes bad firmware

Uh, you can't trust Apple either. :) I never update any of my Macs without seeing what happens to others first. Just look at their discussion groups; things get broken with their roll-outs all the time.

hot surface pro 2 and non-existant battery life

Are you absolutely sure it's going to sleep? Some of us have an issue with "idle" sleep refusing to work if WiFi is enabled. This bug hit me after installing the Jan. 14th updates. In the meantime if I'm going to leave my SP2 alone for a while, I either put it to sleep manually by closing the...

January 14 patch updates and sleep issue

I went through all the refresh/reset stuff with my last SP2 (which had a video bit-depth problem) don't want to start down that path with this replacement. ;) I did try rolling back all the patches from Tuesday and the sleep problem remained, so I've since reapplied them. I'll likely wait to...
