    Surface Line Abandoned by Microsoft?

Agreed. I think that there is some confusion between the WinRT/ARM Surface line and the Surface Pro line. I think it is a given that we will see a Broadwell based SP4 since it will require little R&D to bring to market. Of course, moving forward, I can see that MS may not want to remain in...

i7 owners: is this fan noise normal? (video)

NO, NO, NO! Nothing good will come of that. Exchange it for a new unit at the retailer where you purchased it. If you purchased from MS online, return it for a refund and purchase a new one.

SP2 to SP3, would imaging work?

Give it a go. You might want to have the SP3 driver pack on hand. I have found Windows to be fairly tolerant of fundamental hardware changes (e.g. changing out motherboards). At worst, it doesn't work out and you have to refresh the device.

    Folio cases for SP3...

I never said that it did... I said that is RESTRICTS the air flow - which it does. The exhaust and intake vents are partially obstructed. The SP3 has enough problems dissipating heat - no reason to make it harder...

    Folio cases for SP3...

I would be worried about that case restricting the airflow from the vents.

New iphone owner - how do you integrate with the Surface Pro 3

Hmmmmm... It would seem that the logical thing would have been to investigate the feasibility PRIOR to the purchase. Smells like an impulse buy... If people ask the right questions PRIOR to a purchase, they are less likely to be caught unawares. Certainly nothing pathetic about that - and a...

    Playing DVD

FYI, ripping protected DVDs is also illegal in the US (and other countries). In for a penny, in for a pound, I say... Nope - It is still antiquated... even if it is new to you... Perhaps to those just waking from a two decade coma...

A year of issues - a happy ending

I was afraid of that. I guess if I am ever near an MS store, I'll drop in and hit the manager over the head with my SP2....

    Playing DVD

But DVDs are soooooooo low res - what a waste on the SP3.... And why MKVs? Unless you are specifically taking advantage of specific features provide by MKVs, MP4 is more widely supported (e.g. XBOX Video App). Personally, I prefer to cut out the middle man....

    Random reboot and lock up

That is just unfortunate. I know that is was tricky to to get them to accept my replacement unit, but there was no way that I was going to go through reinstalling everything only to be stuck with a worse machine. Fortunately, the first level support guy was understanding and was willing to try...

    I5 neccesary ?

If you are interested in gaming on a Surface, you will likely be much happier with the SP2 (if you don't mind the aspect ratio). It has the same CPU/GPU as the i5 SP3, but the SP2 has a superior thermal design so it won't throttle nearly as much as the SP3. Also, the SP2 can be had relatively...

My first impressions with the sp3 i7, i'm an illustrator.

You may want to give the SP2 a try. It might give you a better pen experience since it uses a Wacom digitizer.

Here is an interesting comparison: i5 vs i7

*sigh* Yes, yes... As does the SP2, the MBP, etc, etc... The SP3 throttling just makes the i7 "upgrade" pretty pointless. I suggest that you learn about TDP ratings. In short, under load, the i7 is capable of generating more heat than the i5. Why do you think that the i7s are more...

A year of issues - a happy ending

I am not interested n the SP3. I am am rather disappointed with what I have read about the SP3. In my opinion, MS compromised too much for the sake of a few millimeters and 100g. I rather like the SP2, and I think that it struck a good balance - I just wish mine was defect free.

Here is an interesting comparison: i5 vs i7

Of course, the cherry picked stats presented here stats hardly tell the whole story. The 3DMarks are entirely misleading, since there was likely little to no throttling occurring. Of course, people don't normally play games a few minutes at a time. Look at the 3DMarks scores during charging...

Have you tried daisy-chaining without the dock? That could isolate the problem to the dock or the SP3.
