Terrible Customer Service in Woodfield Store

If the unit is within the 30 day return period, you could just return it for a refund and then buy a new one.

Microcenter getting a special "batch" of i5 128GB tablets, is MS trying to make fools of customers?

This is why it is prudent for people to fully "wring out" their machines while they are still within the in-store exchange period, rather than just unpacking it and hoping for the best...

Microcenter getting a special "batch" of i5 128GB tablets, is MS trying to make fools of customers?

A Hynix drive is probably preferable considering this bug affecting certain Samsung drives.

    Did I wreck my battery?

The primary benefit of cycling the battery is to help calibrate the "fuel gauge".

Solved Cant find a suitable video app. Does it exist?

VLC is great but a bit of a CPU hog. When on battery, I usually only use the included video app (XBox Video). It may be limited, but I have not found anything that compares to its efficiency.

    99% not charging question

99% - not charging means that the charge terminated prior to reaching the previously determined "full charge capacity". If you put the computer to sleep (hibernation might be required) it will probably turn on reading 100%. The full charge capacity is then recalibrated to the new value. The...

I got 2 hours of battery life!?

Try a different video player. That is comparable to VLC which is also a bit of a hog. The included video app's CPU utilization is under 2% while watching 1080p video. On my SP2 the total CPU utilization is 5% while using the video app to play videos on my TV via miracast.

High end SP3 and Xbox or low end SP3 and desktop

I have only used the DS4 on an SP2, but it should perform similarly on an SP3 Yikes! 10cm! The range is definitely further than that. I have used it from my couch with the SP2 connected to the TV (about 3m). I believe that DS4's advertised range is 10m. You can connect the DS4 to a PC using...

30 day is all it took to break the glass

The SP3 has a few special challenges in this area that are not present in many other phones and tablets. First it is still on the heavy side for a tablet and in conjunction with the increased size results in greater stress when gripped from the edges. Finally, the thinner glass "compromised"...

Plugged in while being fully charged.

To help preserve the battery, many devices don't initiate charging until the battery has been discharged at least a few percent. My SP2 won't start charging until below 97% (the SP3 is likely the same) and my Dell has customizable charge profiles.

Wireless Keyboard Adapter for SP3 and all my stuff

You must have been using it with the backlight enabled.

Plugged in while being fully charged.

The SP3 automatically terminates charging once the battery is fully charged, so leaving it plugged in will not overcharge it.

    Battery Degradation

It is really six of one and half a dozen of the other. Keeping it fully charged will cause degradation but so does using it. Fast charging causes heat and battery wear, and the heat generated by SP3 further degrades battery performance. It would be nice to have a user replaceable battery...

High end SP3 and Xbox or low end SP3 and desktop

One of the advantages of the SP/Desktop combo over the SP/XBox is Steam's in home streaming. You can play your desktop Steam games on your SP3 anywhere your home network reaches (and not tax the SP3). Plus, the Dualshock 4 controller works great with the Surface (using ds4windows). If you...

High end SP3 and Xbox or low end SP3 and desktop

I would say get the i5/8gb SP3 and a desktop, if you can swing that. The i5 seems to really be the sweet spot with the i3 being too slow (and too little storage) and the i7 is really hobbled by the inadequate thermal design.

Wireless Keyboard Adapter for SP3 and all my stuff

I have been using the adapter with my SP2 for a while and and I quite like it. I actually rarely attach the keyboard to my SP2. I do wish they had used better batteries for it. It really runs down quickly if the back light is enabled. I don't know why they are discontinuing the device - it...

Sharing my opinion on Surface Pro 3 from Microsoft

The OP posted "Glad I am not alone" with a link to a thread containing those images. I could be wrong, but I understood that to mean that the linked thread reflected (I did it again) the OP's problem. A reminder...

Sharing my opinion on Surface Pro 3 from Microsoft

How so? I merely posted images from the OP's link that seem to illustrate the problem. Many seem quick to dismiss that the OP actually had a problem. If the photos are an accurate reflection (see what I did there :D) of the OP's issue, then it was clearly a defective unit. I think that...

Sharing my opinion on Surface Pro 3 from Microsoft

The other given reasons for the distortion seem like BS (something about the digitizer precluding a flat display :rolleyes::rolleyes:) since there is no evidence of distortion here. Seems likely that the OP had a defective device

Sharing my opinion on Surface Pro 3 from Microsoft

Guess you're not keeping up...:rolleyes::rolleyes: My take away was that the OP's screen was distorted which seems to be confirmed by this follow-up post.
