That is correct (and it's probably the only legal way to store a rented movie on the RT). I used the Video app once to rent a video (just to test Xbox) and it worked fine, but I can't remember if you can download the movie in its entirety for later viewing.

The Asus Transformer with Windows 8 was on my (very short) list of convertibles. In fact I had decided it was the one I was going to purchase until I saw the Surface RT last June. I think you made a great choice with the Asus brand, they've got a good rep.

I had the same problem with images. With IE10 you have to set Compatibility Mode, and it will work after that.

The spreadsheet is considered to be the "killer app" that launched personal PCs. I first learned to build spreadsheets on an Apple IIe, using Appleworks. They sure are easier to build now!

Sadly, I had to edit my initial post. When I got it earlier this month the price was only $40US on Amazon, but the price has gone up since then (I discovered that when I was looking for the link). That's the price that led me astray. :D

This is my Win8 Pro desktop with the RT in front of it. That's the wedge mouse on the right and a Bluetooth speaker on the left. This image shows my Win8 Pro media center PC under our TV.

I can confirm that a USB 3 thumb drive works on the Surface RT (at the slower speed, of course). I have the opposite problem with the microSD card: the Surface sees the full drive, but my Win8 desktop can see only 1GB. It appears that sometimes these things don't play together well.

Thanks for the link. Even if true that would be too small for my needs and, in all honesty, if I did want a tablet that size I'd opt for 8.9" Amazon's Kindle Fire HD (EDIT: In ADDITION to my Surface). I had one of their original Kindle Fires with the 7" screen and it was an excellent device...

I tried it in compatibility mode, desktop UI, on the Surface and it worked, and now it's working in Metro mode. Interesting... Thanks for the tips!

The trick was compatibility mode on my desktop. Now why can't I get it to work in the "Metro" browser???
