Do ALL SP2s suffer from hi CPU utilization when idle due to faulty audio drivers?

Curiously, for a few weeks I hadn't seen the high CPU utilization occurring. However in the last week or so I see this happening starting up from cold boot. Not sure what changed, in either direction, but it is annoying to say the least. My traditional trick, putting SP2 into sleep and waking...

    Guys need help

Not an expert by any means, but sounds like problems going on a few months back with SP2. First, have you applied the firmware updates issued to this point? If not, doing so could solve the problem. Second, you could try the "volume up button" trick. Shut down the SP2. Wait 30 sec., then...

March update brings new WiFi driver

Often enough the SP2 seems like the greatest computing invention I've ever used, and other times I hate its silicon guts. True, the machine has bugs, probably way more than average, largely courtesy of MS itself. You know, Evil Firmware, strange firmware/hardware/driver interactions...

March update brings new WiFi driver

Isn't that the update that's supposed to be released next month? I don't think it's available now, though from what I've read it was inadvertently "leaked" and some were able to try it out. FWIW I finally received the recent updates and it seems there's less BT interference. On the 2.4GHz...

Windows 8.1 Update 1 fixes the "slow Wi-Fi when bluetooth devices connected" problem

I've not yet received the March FW updates so I haven't tested it yet. My current results are similar to yours, 2.4GHz WiFi speed is cut in half (130 vs. 65 mpbs). I really hoped an update would resolve, at least improve the WiFi/BT problem. Your results are not encouraging.

You've got the pOO000WWWEEEER - PowerCover for Surface Pro 1 and 2 coming Mach 19

Yeah, I like the backlight. It's helpful working at night, lights can be dim, and I can see the keys if necessary. I'm not that great a "touch typist", sometimes I have to cheat to hit the right keys. Can't imagine backlighting the keyboard drains all that much energy. I keep it at dimmest...

March update brings new WiFi driver

Yes, but does it fix the WiFi "bluetooth interference" problem? I haven't yet found a good solution to it. And the latest round of updates has not yet landed on my SP2. Doesn't ever make sense to me how distribution of updates varies so erratically.

Windows 8.1 Update 1 fixes the "slow Wi-Fi when bluetooth devices connected" problem

There was a thread here recently about the repeating update issue. I had that going on too. Go to Windows Update/Troubleshoot problems... It refers to an MS site that downloads an app which will identify and probably fix the problem. Something about deleting the Windows update store, which...

You've got the pOO000WWWEEEER - PowerCover for Surface Pro 1 and 2 coming Mach 19

Yup. Above it's quoted as weighing 0.55 lb. That's more than the TC2.

Do ALL SP2s suffer from hi CPU utilization when idle due to faulty audio drivers?

You are right. They really should fix this thing. Like so many others here, I was counting on the mSD for the additional file storage, but when there are so many bad driver/hardware/software interactions, it becomes very difficult to use the SP2 "as advertised". Rather a shame...

    Surface Pro 3 Wish List!

My fondest wish: We'll see the SP3 When our charming SP2 Is made bug free, free, free! No less than promised to be.

More Bad News on the Surface "PowerCover"

Well of course, there is always "something drastic" happening. Especially at MS if we'd believe the many comments in this forum. The scary drawing--I'm assuming it was made on an SP2--I mean very scary...

Feb. 2014 update still won't install properly

FWIW I tried again a second ago, and still no connection. Weird because every other site seems to be connecting normally, and no firewall, etc. beyond the Windows firewall in the SP2. Puzzling. After all, I don't live all that far from Redmond...

Found reason Surface Pro 2 wasn't hibernating

Good idea to turn off background processes you don't need, saves a bit of battery power too. Another setting to consider, if you haven't already changed it, is under the Power Management tab. Unchecking "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" reduces WiFi disruption during...

    Horrendous Wireless Performance

Yes, but the BT mouse did make a difference on my SP2. With 2.4 GHz signal, BT ON -> 65 mbps, OFF -> 130 mbps. Double (or half) isn't trivial. And there was no other BT device in use except for one mouse (a MS product at that). I guess it doesn't take much to impede WiFi. Your...

Feb. 2014 update still won't install properly

Strangely enough right after I saw this thread, Windows Update declared there were 2 updates ready: the daily Defender information, and Firmware Update Feb 11 2014. Funny thing is that FW blob, or one with the same name, was installed on Feb 19. Checking the list of installed updates does...

More Bad News on the Surface "PowerCover"

Well, it looks like I'll be shopping for a dual band router, definitely needed at home, maybe one for my office too.

    Horrendous Wireless Performance

Thanks for the tip. It looks and has specs similar to the hub I have, except the HooToo was much less expensive. Now I know where to go if I need another one, not a farfetched possibility at all. The problem is the cable. I have a much shorter one (came with a disk enclosure, I think) about...

More Bad News on the Surface "PowerCover"

Testing isn't hard. From the desktop menu select Network Connections, right click (or equivalent) on the Marvell WiFi connection and select Status. Speed is the key parameter. Turn off BT, and Speed readout will likely be higher. In my case, accessing the old router I have at home varied...
