Surface Pro 2 Docking Station - 1st Impressions

10/100I could live with. I'm more turned off by the way the tablet slides in and out of the dock. Looks like more of a two-handed operation. Might not be a big deal, but if you're docking and undocking repeatedly throughout the day, would seem like it might get cumbersome. I can take my Fujitsu...

    Surface Charger

So, Microsoft had to create a power connector that is cumbersome to connect because a few dog owners can't control their dogs? Sure, makes perfect sense to me. :D

Anyone replaced their home computer with the Surface Pro?

Thanks HD_Dude. I may give it a try. However, fussing with 2 cables - one of which is the Surface's incredibly cumbersome power supply connector - is not my idea of grab and go. :-). I know MS can do better.

Anyone replaced their home computer with the Surface Pro?

Had not thought of that option. Thanks. I wish someplace carried this in the store so I could check it out. Maybe I'll hold out for a few more months... see what the Lenovo Helix looks like... or maybe Microsoft will have solved this by then. :-)

Anyone replaced their home computer with the Surface Pro?

For some reason, the new 700T dock lacks video out. Strangely, the prior Windows 7 version of the 700T dock had video out. A step backwards?

    Pro Charger - Missed Oportunity

Interesting. I won't go down the Atom road again after my experience with the HP Slate. However, maybe the forthcoming Lenovo Helix will have a dock similar to that TPT2 dock.

    Pro Charger - Missed Oportunity

I too am trying to replace a ThinkPad with docking station... X200t.

    Pro Charger - Missed Oportunity

Didn't mean to come across as complaining. Was just trying to share my opinion of what would make the Surface a better fit for my needs.

    Pro Charger - Missed Oportunity

All due respect, judging my what my personal requirements and preferences are is pretty silly. I move from my desk to mobile/meetings 3, 4, 5 times per day. Tinkering with multiple cables each time... especially this horrible power connector is cumbersome and will inhibit my use. Moreover, I...

Anyone replaced their home computer with the Surface Pro?

It could be - I want it to be - but until there is a real docking solution that makes it easy to just grab and go, it can't be my primary computer. Frankly, thinking about returning my Pro because of this. Amazing to me that this wasn't a priority for MS. This would seem to have been such a...

    Pro Charger - Missed Oportunity

I bought the surface hoping it could become my primary computer. Unfortunately, the lack of a dock or single cable docking solution is preventing this. Not sure I'm keeping the Pro as a result. Feels like such a missed opportunity for the Surface to distinguish itself.

Geab and go. Is there an alternative to a dock?

At the office, I want to use my Pro with a full size keyboard, mouse, external monitor, and preferably wired Ethernet. I need to be able to grab and go multiple times throughout the day. Plugging and unplugging multiple cables will inhibit my usage. Can anyone suggest a solution?

    Surface RT and PRO :D

I think I am going to get a Pro to replace my RT... 80% because I want the active digitizer screen and 20% because I want to run legacy apps. I suspect I'm going to miss the smaller size of the RT, the fanless/cool operation, and the Instant wake from sleep. We'll see... maybe TODAY.

Fiddling with the magnetic power charger cord

I hate this connector more than I hate the limited battery life or any other Surface weakness. I end up with an uncharged battery too often because I was just too lazy or in too much of a rush to fiddle with the awkward connector. I read my tablet in bed at night, and it's just to cumbersome to...

Can't Insert Paragraph Break When Posting on These Forums

Is anyone else having problem entering paragraph breaks when typing a message in this forum? I have tried from the desktop IE browser of both a Windows 8 Pro machine and a Surface RT machine. I hit enter, but don't get a paragraph break. Annoying!

Great features of Windows RT that people may not know about...

I've actually got a spare copy of WHS lying around... got it as a "gift" from MS for participating in some user study a few years ago. Unfortunately, I don't have any hardware to run it on currently. :-) I think the solution that is going to work for me is to move my music from the NAS to a...
