I had my sp3 a few weeks before I used my skins, no issues after the skins with heat, it still gets just as hot before or after.

You get use to it, really there is no perfect place. Anywhere they put it someone will complain, using it in landscape and portrait makes it a challenge, but its nice you can use it in multiple ways. I never found it much of an issue.
