I'd go 8GB, if you're in engineering and you want to use it for 4 years. Better future proofing and you'll be doing some high end stuff, my RAM starts running out pretty quickly at 4GB.

Running Matlab and taking notes is why the Surface Pro line is so great. You have the versatility to sit in lecture annotating notes and recording the lecture but also run Matlab and some simple CAD builds. Like you say some more complex things on Matlab should probably be done in the labs but...

I couldn't get it to work, just a buggy mess. Got the loading bar by turning on flash but that's it. Try GMusic in the app store, it's not great but it works

Install touchme gestures and set back and forward in browser to 2 finger swipes left and right if you miss it. That's what I've done. It comes very naturally very quickly.

Its a million times better than their 8 to 8.1 via the store. Just follow that download. I had to do it for my pc. You don't have to actually create a USB launcher it does it like the update version
