Did your fan ever turn off between attempts or after you finished? I'm about 42 minutes from leaving to go to the MS Store, and my Surface never stopped spinning the fan in an audible fashion.

Appreciate you doing that, at least it gives me a real world benchmark. I guess I need to figure out if I really want to go through exchanging this and hoping for better or just deal without for a while and return it.... Sounds like something is in fact wrong with mine currently as it was...

Sitting here in 65f weather, overcast, no sun, cold as heck in my office, and I'm resetting my surface, it's at only 16%, and the fan has slowly ramped up to almost full blast.... For real, I just did this on my SP2 before selling it and it was silent, this thing has some major heat issues.

I am doing a full reset now, when it's done I am going to create a blank profile, import nothing, update all the software, and then try the test one more time. If it fails, I'm over it, I'll be calling the MS Store at 10am PST to make sure they'll take the return, and be done with it otherwise.

Running it now, and I the software itself really isn't as important for what it was made for as it simply stresses the computer. I purposely left off the hard drive and other resources as I only wanted it to stress the two areas that I know are having issues, that generate the heat.

I would try that piece of software I spoke of and see if it starts kicking your speed down after 6 minutes. I am really curious, I can't mimic your test nearly as easily as you can mimic. mine.

I mean hell, take 6 minutes out of your day and do it, if this really is across the board, this means anytime we run anything CPU intensive, watch an HD youtube video for over 2 minutes, etc, our SP3s are going to throttle down to a level of performance lower than my CELL PHONE.

I do not believe the Metro app has an option to change this. The Metro app has very few options, no extensible add ons, and no way to change the search function.
