Hot spot deals... I occasionally need a hotspot

Have you looked into this?: http://www.freedompop.com/ If you are in their service area it's a good deal. I'm not in their 4G service area so can't get the free 500MB per month plan.

Anyone planning on trying Windows 10 Preview tomorrow?

As I did with Win 7 & Win 8 Previews, the Win 10 Preview will be installed in a VM. I'd never install a preview (Beta) on a machine I need/use on a daily basis.

Poll What is your shutdown and charging habit?

I pretty much always shutdown my SP3 regardless of whether I plan to use it again during the day. It boots quickly enough that I don't care if I need to boot it multiple times per day. When I think I'm done with it for the day, I place it in the dock to charge.

    Playing DVD

Back to the original point of this thread, sharing a DVD drive across your network in order to play a movie really doesn't have anything to do with the SP3 (it's no surprise that it works), it has more to do with whether or not your network is up to snuff.

Seen today at a tech conference...

My point is that there are other Miracast adapters out there that do meet my criteria with no need for adapters. For newer TVs this is great, not so for older TVs.

Seen today at a tech conference...

I have a slew of wall warts with a microUSB connector to charge cell phones and such but not much in the way of a full size USB connector to use as a power source. The USB pigtail is really only a good solution for newer TVs/monitors that have a USB port to use for power.

Anyone able to create hotspot on Surface Pro 3?

My problem is solved (although still can't create hotspot on SP3). My carrier (Verizon) sent out a system update for my LG G2 phone and now FoxFi works to use my phone as a hotspot! I'm typing this in from my SP3 connected via wifi to my phone. It's still a curiosity to me why creating a...

Seen today at a tech conference...

None of my TVs have a USB to connect to so I would prefer to have a microUSB port instead of the USB pigtail for powering the device. Otherwise sounds great.

Poll How reliable is your SP3?

I read these forums and see the problems some have had with their SP3s and I scratch my head because I have not had any issues.

How do YOU watch movies (off line)

I rip DVDs and save as mp4 then I can copy them to my sd card or to an external USB drive and play them from there.

Win 7 on desktop / Win 8 on SP2 is this ok?

Another way to share files between the 2 machines would be to use Dropbox. Once you setup Dropbox on both computers, any files you save to the Dropbox folder on one machine will automatically be transferred to the other machine. The one drawack to Dropbox is that both computers need to have an...

    Program installation from CD

It's not really necessary to convert the install CD to an ISO, you can simply copy the files from the CD to a USB thumb drive, plug it into the SP3 and run the install from there. The cases where you would need to create an ISO are those where the CD is copy-protected (a game perhaps?) or if...

My Favorite SP3 Feature I did not expect

There's a huge difference between a pen and a stylus. I've used devices with a stylus and used devices where you only used your fingers. In many cases the stylus worked better. On one hand it's kind of a pain to have to always carry a stylus around but the accuracy of a stylus blows away the...

I don't use Bluetooth headphones but I have been listening to music all day today on a Bose Soundlink Mini Bluetooth speaker connected to my SP3 and haven't had it disconnect at all. My SP3 has the all the latest updates.

    Bluetooth connection issues

A dongle may work but seems a shame to waste your single USB port on that. You could always use a USB hub I guess.
