To me what you describe (15-20% CPU usage when watching video or some other intensive webpage) seems normal. I don't let the fan bother me unless it's going full blast, which never seems to happen for me unless I'm playing games.

I posted a potential solution to this issue on the SP3 window 8 section. What I did was install Intel's latest video driver (beta) and it seems to have solved this problem for me.

Why not uninstall some apps or programs and reinstall them later?

I also got that message on my first try. I think what I did then is instead of running the installer, I went into the driver properties and upgraded from there by saying I have the disk and navigate to the folder.

I have the same issue and really hoping someone can help.

Just as an update, my SP3 was at 87% when I used this shortcut to shutdown 3 wks ago and when I booted it up yesterday, it had 85% left. So, with this method of shutting down, SP3 really doesn't drain any battery.

I have this issue as well. Seems to happen randomly if I shut it down using the charm. So what I did was create a shortcut on my taskbar for a shutdown. By using this "shutdown", my SP3 now does not drain any battery during shutdown. I used instructions from here: Shutdown - Restart shortcut...

Laptops are so cheap these days....why not just buy one? Not trying to be critical or negative but it seems this pretty much kills the intended usage of a SP3.

I haven't experienced what OP's seeing. I do occasionally use the app as I think it's nice looking and useful app. To OP: have you tried Flipboard for news? I like it a lot and haven't had any issues with it.

Chrome is a battery hog. I don't use it on my SP3 (only use it on my desktop). I use IE metro exclusively on my SP3 and it's been working flawlessly.
