Surface Pro 3 - best computer I've owned

The threads on this sub forum are tailing off, the device is 3 years old after all, but I have to say that the SP3 has been the best computer I've ever owned. Sure there were bumps along the way with the OS, the first year with windows 10 being particularly painful in terms of usability and...

Everyone needs to get the SP4 touch cover

The main things I did to improve the battery life were switching from Firefox to Edge and disabling the Windows Search service. There were a few other suggestions I found around the web but those two seemed to make the biggest improvements. Firefox was constantly keeping the CPU use high on me...

Everyone needs to get the SP4 touch cover

I know there have been positive reviews posted before, but honestly I never would have guessed how much better the new keyboard is in every way. It's stiff, the tactile feel of the keys is amazing, touch pad is as good as most laptops, and it just looks and feels fantastic. This, along with the...

Solved Updates in Windows 10 Store Not Installing

I've noticed that I have several updates in the Windows Store and none are installing. Some say "pending" and some are "downloading" but have been at 0% for two days now. I've searched the web and haven't really found any answers, also I've tried the usual things like rebooting and running...

Solved Question about trackpad speed after disconnecting BT mouse

If anyone has the same issue I did find a workable solution, you can use a free program called EitherMouse to enable different settings for different mice connected to the computer. It works perfectly with my surface keyboard & Logitech BT mouse. http://eithermouse.com/

Solved Question about trackpad speed after disconnecting BT mouse

Whenever I used to disconnect my mouse the trackpad speed would slow down dramatically. To fix it I would have to uncheck "Enhance Pointer Precision" in mouse pointer settings. This setting seems to have disappeared in 10, but unfortunately the problem hasn't. Anyone have any ideas how to speed...

    Wow, that was painless...

Yep, I'm pleasantly surprised. Abaqus (a high-end FEA program) is running fine, and CATIA (high-end CAD) works but has some graphics glitches. All of my Adobe CC apps have updated and appear to be working perfectly. I haven't tried Cortana yet but I love the search box next to the start menu button.

    Wow, that was painless...

I got to work 40 minutes ago and plugged in my surface, went to windows update and saw the update available, and now my machine is rebooted and logging in to Windows 10. I think that's even quicker than the major OS updates on my MBP.

Bluetooth Mouse for Surface Pro 3

I also use the M557 since I need the scroll wheel. It's not quite as small as the ultra thin but still nicely portable and works great with the SP3. It connects immediately when you turn it on and the only real downside is that you will drain your battery quickly if you don't remember to shut it...

Anyone have a Bluetooth Game Pad Recommendation?

I want to try running some emulators on my SP3, mame/SNES/etc., and I was wondering if anyone has tried a bluetooth game pad and would recommend it for the surface? I have an old wired usb controller from Logitech, but I'd like to see if I could switch to a smaller wireless controller. Any...

    SP3 i5/8gb good for CAD?

Thanks a ton for this advice, updating the driver was a bit of a pain (the browser on the device won't even download the zip file) but it was worth it. When panning or rotating the view it's faster now on battery than it was before while plugged in.

    SP3 i5/8gb good for CAD?

I have CATIA installed now, I haven't loaded a product but with a part it's bearable so long as you have it plugged in and don't have all of the graphics settings maxed. Definitely not in the same ballpark as my Lenovo W530, but still passable. That freecad file is just something I had found on...

Love/hate relationship with my new i5/256gb

Certainly the more I interact with it by touching the screen vs using the keyboard/trackpad the more enjoyable it is to use it. It's a paradigm shift though and definitely takes some getting used to.

    SP3 i5/8gb good for CAD?

I got my i5/256gb this week, I still haven't installed CATIA on it yet but I have played around with FreeCAD. My sense is that it handles the graphics fairly well, up to a certain limit, and could be used for CAD when necessary (but probably not as your primary machine). Even with a moderately...

Love/hate relationship with my new i5/256gb

I've had my surface for just about a week now, and I'm starting to get a good feel for it. Some things I really, really love, and some aspects of it I can't stand. First and foremost is the design and form factor, which MS has done an amazing job with. The device works a whole lot better in my...

    SP3 i5/8gb good for CAD?

I'm planning on buying an i5 w/ 256GB for CATIA and Abaqus (not solving any models just setting them up). Based on the specs I think it will be passable, at least for small models and assemblies, and once I get mine in a week or so I'll post my results. If anyone who has a surface wants to see...
