    Post your battery life

Can we add a requirement to this thread to include your model SP3? And maybe also to include any key points relevant to battery life...specifically your brightness settings, and generally how you "use" the device? I'm interested to see what everyone is posting...I'll post mine at some point...

    Is Continuum Ready?

I installed Win10 in a dual boot configuration... Meh...not a fan...will continue to provide feedback to Microsoft though. It's excellent for a desktop...it's not as nice to use as 8.1 with the surface (and I suspect any device where you spend more time with a touch screen rather than a...

Has anyone dual booted Windows 10 from a VHD?

    Seems true.... https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/f06fb6c5-21b0-4bef-aa20-a653f2448cdb/upgrade-preview-editions-installed-on-vhd?forum=WinPreview2014Setup

Has anyone dual booted Windows 10 from a VHD?

If you search around I see things like the below quote. They're always in reference to running from windows update: "Yes, I have Windows 10 TP booting from a VHD (triple boot: Win 7 Pro SSD, Win 8.1 VHD, Win 10 TP VHD). The only problem is that cannot update to build 9860 (Message is: Cannot...

[How to] Test the new Windows 10 Technical Preview via Boot to VHD

Has anyone found an easy way to handle OS updates when you have it running from a VHD? Or is it easier to just re-install the latest build?

Has anyone dual booted Windows 10 from a VHD?

Spoke too soon maybe...folks are saying you don't get OS updates when booting from a VHD...that would be a bummer, but not awful if you don't mind refreshing the install every once in a while. In this case it's just for testing anyways...

Has anyone dual booted Windows 10 from a VHD?

Similar to this article: http://www.wintellect.com/devcenter/paulballard/dual-boot-windows-10-technical-preview-from-a-vhd I was playing around with Windows 10 last night. But I don't want to run it full-time, so I first tried it in a VM. I didn't have a good experience with it in Virtual...

    Knuckle or Pen?

I have sketchbook and there was a setting to use pen only I believe? I'll have to check again...but that does the trick...otherwise the surface doesn't seem to pick up the pen until it's pretty close to the screen. Typically after my palm has already hit and then I leave marks everywhere...

    Video Editor for SP3

I've installed a trial of Premiere Elements (on an i7), it seems to work well. I've just got basic uses for it...The latest version handles the HiDPI ok. But I admittedly haven't really played with it enough to draw a conclusion. It's pretty cheap with an education discount if you know...

can't wait to buy surface pro 4

I'm thinking that if MS is less worried about "faster" and instead engineers the use of broadwell to really squeeze more battery life (and improve thermals) then I will make the jump. The SP3 will still have good re-sale value. We won't really know until it's released... I don't think MS will...

CES 2015 - Pen Input made easy

It's a little different, it's not floating or in a separate window...you can literally write into any text input on screen. Hopefully MS does integrate the same into Windows...and I agree, if I have a keyboard...that's much easier...but if I'm already using the pen for note taking, then this...

can't wait to buy surface pro 4

Pros and Cons...there are some that might like Core-M done right (Yoga 3 being a bad example)...Fanless and 17 hours battery life with the keyboard (and Wacom input). The tablet portion is similar in weight/dimensions to the surface (different aspect ratio though). Personally, I'll stick with...

http://www.anandtech.com/show/8814/intel-releases-broadwell-u-new-skus-up-to-48-eus-and-iris-6100 According to Intel (none of this tested in the wild yet of course), the U series SKU's for Broadwell provide: Up to 1.5 hours longer batter life (while watching 1080p or UHD video) 22% performance...

    Best Music Player

All of my music at home is on my NAS, I use the Plex app at home or away. At home, I play it from the surface to my receiver. (one annoyance I've found is that you can't add music from a networked library to xbox music...something to do with window's inability to index these locations...very...

Anyone have experience with BOTH the i5 and i7?

I did some video encodes with handbrake last night of a small 30 second AVCHD 1080p clip. Using quicksync the surface hardly breaks a sweat. 40-50 FPS on best quality, and 70-80 FPS on balanced. It even handles just straight x264 with handbrake's default high profile "ok", about 20-30FPS. I...

Custom Fan - Get More From Your SP3!

It looks like the cover is supposed to click in, is that how it attaches? What if there were grooves in the fan box so that the cover slid in from the top? Then whether it was snug or not, it wouldn't be at risk of falling out. Just a thought, I think I'll grab one at some point to try out.

Anyone have experience with BOTH the i5 and i7?

Thanks for all the replies. GTiceman provided a ton of great, very specific comparisons for his use case in those links...thanks for adding them here. I think I'll stick with the i7. I'm not as concerned about the cost difference. Just trying to get the best device for my uses. Of note, for...

Anyone have experience with BOTH the i5 and i7?

Has anyone had experience using both the i5 (preferably 256gb version) and i7 versions of the Surface Pro 3? I'm curious for some feedback on how you would compare the two (Perceived performance, I've seen the benchmark scores, but can you notice the difference in actual use? in what use...

Surface Pro 3: Six Months Later

Would have liked a full size SD card slot...even if it was of the type where it stuck out of the side while in use, just for photo transfers...I'm sure the case is crammed as it is and that it was considered and axed... Fully expecting a broadwell refresh in the same chassis following Win 10...
