    Secondary Monitor scaling

Wow, just wow. On one hand, it seemed obvious to a lot of us posting here. On the other hand, I had wholly expected us to still be hitting this thread in 2025. I'm quietly stoked. Slightly unrelated: I've got the preview in a VM on my linux box as I'm too chicken to put it on the SP3 yet...

    Secondary Monitor scaling

Hey there ynohtna. Yes, I do mean on the SP3 internal display. Like you, it does remember for me the monitors and resolutions when I re-dock (for me presently this mean the layout with 2x24 inch, and the SP3 in the middle below them) -that much is quite good! But what I found, which may be to...

    Secondary Monitor scaling

Yep, the setting of the SP3 to a non-native resolution is the best of a bad bunch of solutions in my experience. To me the holy grail is very simple: let me independently set the scaling level per display: If I find the SP3 screen suits me best at 'Larger' or 150% or whatever, just freaking keep...

Surface wakes up after shut down in dock

Hi Oliver. I encounter the same thing: I leave mine on the dock to charge overnight, and have often found it awake with two monitors blazing in the middle of the night. You can try viewing the event logs, but I haven't really had any success. I've identified 'Kernel Power' events where the...

On my 3rd Docking Station, and this one ain't working either

For what it's worth I have a working dock too,so maybe it's me and HarnessTech. I have a logitech dongle for mouse, and a Microsoft one for keyboard attached, plus sometimes external HDD. I have had 'keyboard doesnt work' about 6 times in as many months, usually solved by undock/redock, and the...

    Extended Displays and SP3

I have 2x Dell U2414H, which I got during one of Dells frequent specials. They have a very slim bezel (6mm) which is fully flush, so they work nicely as a pair. They are 1920x1080, but I'd note that a couple of months after purchase I think I noted a near identical, but 1920x1200 model. THey...

    Extended Displays and SP3

Hi Kevin. I have two monitors with native displayport that are daisy-chained, and Windows does try to remember the configurations for docked/undocked settings. I usually run the SP3 sitting below the monitors, but I have just tested disabling the SP3 display, and it successfully switches between...

Mini DisplayPort on new docking station doesn't work

Hi Sebastian. I found with my Dell's that the refresh rate (as set by windows) defaults to 59Hz, and I had blackness/dropouts quite a bit. Changing it to 60Hz has improved things a lot. Also if you haven't checked, make sure your monitor has DisplayPort 2 enabled in the settings - mine didn't...

    Surface Pro 3 and Chromecast

Hi -I can't comment on the Amazon/BBC in particular, but I understand that Metro/Modern apps can remain active for network activites when asleep, but Desktop apps can't. I have encountered this with Bluetooth devices as well - audio from Desktop apps dies on sleep, but is OK with Metro/Modern...

    System Firmware update

In my case the HD Graphics update has now fixed Displaylink, which had been busted since about August. It was fixable with the drivers direct from Intel, but I was under the (misguided? correct?) impression that the MS-blessed version had (something) better optimised. Seems a good update if you...

    external display questions

I'm with Zhenya here : 1440x960 is a good match for me with 24" 1920x1080 external displays. Undocking resets me to native 2160x1440 on the SP3, but at least one logout/in cycle is always required to get everything feeling right. (I often need two in order for the fat window borders to shrink...

Poll Shut down SP3 or just close the type cover

I am a closet optimist, so I just close the cover. Have gotten used to about a 1 in 10 chance of not waking properly though. ...and a 1 in 3 chance of not waking when docked.

Problem with USB ADC -HRT Linestreamer+

Hi GreyFox7 - thanks for your input! As for needing a 64 bit driver - because the device "makes use of the native Audio Class1.0 drivers that are present in all modern PC, Mac & Linux computers, so there are no extra drivers or software to install", there is nothing to update or install in...

Problem with USB ADC -HRT Linestreamer+

Hi all. I've got a problem trying to record audio on my SP3 I5/8GB/256GB -as is at least one other person over here : Audacity Forum View topic - monitor/recording freezes immediately I'm using Audacity 2.0.6 with an HRT linestreamer+, which is detected fine by Windows as an 'Audio Endpoint'...

Monitor won't display through SP3 docking station

I have two of those as well. The most useful things I have discovered by trial and error: Mine work most reliablywith refresh rate set to 60Hz Every now and then they just 'lose it' totally, and powering them off at the mains for about a minute seems to bring them back to life.

3 external DP monitors - a bridge too far?

I had the same experience as the OP with 3 DP, however I have managed to get the SP3 display and 3 external working reliably : 2 daisychained DP directly off the SP3, a displaylink off the usb, and the sp3. It won't work off the dock DisplayPort - as in other threads there is (something) less...

Poll List of common issues with SP3

Wakes itself during the night if left on dock to charge. Remedy is elusive Screen resolution with external displays very flaky, which is Windows not strictly the SP3, but scaling doesn't work to my liking, and works differently (unpleasantly so) when docked/undocked, needing at least one...

    Special keys on type cover?

Good point Bob - I would further add that once toggled to bring the Function row back, you are able to use FN+LeftArrow=Home FN+RightArrow=End FN+UpArrow=PgUp FN+DownArrow=PgDn -not publicized but easy to get used to!

    Special keys on type cover?

I have found AutoHotkey (http://autohotkey.com/)does the trick fine. The good thing is no registry messing, and there is a reasonable community that you can search for most mappings. FYI the mappings I have it doing are at bottom -note that the lines starting with ; are comments. I use Win+Del...

    Lock Screen to Start Screen

Huh? If I've understood the question, it's actually fairly easy -took me about 2 minutes if I recall, but was a couple of months ago so I'm not dead certain on the details. In my case it was something like: Find lockscreen image in C:\Windows\Web\Screen\ Right Click to 'Set as Desktop...
