    Screen Orentation Messed up

Resurrecting an older thread, as my SP3 (on 8.1 with all current updates) has tonight done exactly what thejoker1993 originally reported here. I have checked the bleedingly obvious: Orientation lock from the Charms/Settings, as well as from Screen Resolution dialog as suggested by Liam2349. The...

Does SP3 Type cover have a numlock?

Hi - not entirely sure why you'd need one, but while there's nothing built-in you can create shortcuts for missing keys using AutoHotKey. For example I need an Insert key for some programs, which I get with Win + Del using the AutoHotKey remap code #Delete::Insert I also like having the...

    Pen Useful?

I share your atrocious handwriting and lack of drawing skill. I have just gotten the pen button remapped, which apart from the novelty factor means I can use it for powerpoint or web forward/back. So it's cheaper than a presentation pointer, doesn't need a dongle, and looks nicer. Sometimes I...

    Rebinding the Pens Purple Button

Hi mitchellvii, this should work. The only caveat is that when asleep it will still launch Metro Onenote, as that function happens at a lower level. If you already have AHK working go straight to the bold text. Download and install Autohotkey Installer from http://www.autohotkey.com/ Choose...

    Rebinding the Pens Purple Button

Hi kidpiglet. Video tutorials can be hard to follow, if you have something in particular you want the button to do, I'd be happy to put a really simple how-to for you? -and I totally agree it should be built in by MS!

    Gmail App

For desktop-ey rather than tablet-ey use Thunderbird does a really solid job of Gmail, and with a couple of extensions will sync google calendar and contacts too. If you use a larger theme it's even a bit touch-friendly, the only shortfall being no auto-keyboard as with most desktop apps.

    Rebinding the Pens Purple Button

Hi, you can rebind the button using Autohotkey - see my post here re controlling powerpoint. If you've not used autohotkey before, the learning curve isn't too bad. As far as the input is concerned for Autohotkey the pen sends F20 for a single-click, and F19 for a double-click, which means you...

Setup dual boot on Surface Pro 3?

My experience with the SP3 was that shrinking C is very challenging after the device has done much. I ended up reinstalling, then doing the partition change almost immediately.

Surface 3 dock disassembly + DisplayPort sync issue fix

Wow, that's great. I find I need a full power cycle every couple of days, but thought nothing of it other than "aaaargh". This looks a pretty safe possible fix so thanks! If I'm brave I might also pad out the port surround to sit plumb : I cannot fathom why they kept the angled socket housing...

    mobile broadband and SurfacePro3

Hi. As nipponham notes, as a rule anything designed to work with a laptop should work fine with the SP3. The only place I've seen issues is if a device has a very large power draw (like my USB monitor). Would be 95% sure that you'll be fine - and if you're getting a dongle in-store you should be...

SP3 pen to control powerpoint presentation??

Mysterious about Avast - AHK is very kosher if you're getting from the official site. The PPT control is working nicely for me -I only looked at using the pen based on the paucity of nice looking bluetooth presenters, but it's nice and robust.

SP3 pen to control powerpoint presentation??

Resurrecting an old thread because I had this question last night, and found an answer I'm happier with. I use Autohotkey to help with the missing buttons on the type cover, and it turned out great for this. At the simplest you can add these lines which will enable single-pen-click to next...

    Multiple Screen configuration problem

I tried the Intel driver as I had some initial problems with the the mDP out on the dock driving my chained monitors, and then again once the MS driver stopped working for my DisplayLink in travel setup. I agree that it's worth avoiding if all is running well. I don't know if there is a...

    Multiple Screen configuration problem

I think there was a video driver update a few weeks back - in my case it re-enabled DisplayLink, which had previously stopped working (and was documented as such by DisplayLink). Also since that update I can now run the SP3 screen + 1xDisplayLink + 2xDisplayPort daisychained off the dock, which...

    Solved SP3 / Windows 8 No Sound?

"Error: could not play test tone" sounds like Windows to me. Has this been the case since you got it? You could check device manager and see if somehow it has 'Unrecognised' the device.

    Password Manager app SP3

There a several things the Keepass desktop client supports for the extra paranoid: You can disable remembering the locations of your password files Your password file can be called anything, and located anywhere. In particular, I don't use a .kdbx extension, as you can just as easily store it...

    Password Manager app SP3

Hi - technically Keepass is the container format, with many apps for different platforms. A quick search in the store brought up 'Metropass' and 'Passkeep', which both claim to be interoperable with Keepass 2.x files. Haven't tried either though.

    Password Manager app SP3

Hi. I have found Keepass to be very solid. Download the professional edition, which is still free. What I like: You can start very basic -with just a local file. As such it's very easy and relatively secure to use -It doesn't force you to use some cloud provider. But should you want to be...

Hi WAR - you're clearly finding what I had. Notwithstanding the promising news about the latest Window10 builds, I have settled on a solution that works quite well for me: Using the info provided here...
