    SP3 power adapter pins

Great explanations. I guess though that only partially answers the question, as adding the usb data lanes would have just required making the blade portion a little wider, which doesn't look like it would have posed any problems.

    SP3 power adapter pins

Ah, I see what you are saying now. Can't say I know. It would sure have been nice if they'd connected them to the usb port they have in the brick - making it functional for charging and data!

    SP3 power adapter pins

The power port is used also for docking, so it has pins for power, usb data, audio, and video.

Using OneDrive App With Cloud-Based Files Only

What I'm saying is that the way that OneDrive works on Windows 8.1 is that even if the files are marked as 'online only' they still appear in Windows Explorer and still occupy space on your drive - sometimes significant space as they still need to keep the thumbnails and the file metadata (this...

Using OneDrive App With Cloud-Based Files Only

Are you sure the files were there or were they just the placeholders that OneDrive uses to allow you to see all your files and folders through Windows Explorer whether they are actually stored locally or not? (This feature is, regrettably, IMO, being removed from Windows 10).

    Speakers / Headset Dilemma

Lots of Bluetooth speakers incorporate a microphone so they can be used for calls. That said, can't you designate the headset as the 'default communications device' in the Sound settings, and leave your speakers as the default playback device, allowing you to leave both connected? (I'm not sure...

    New Apple 12" MacBook - competition to SP3 ?

What are you talking about? The SP3 with type cover is 14mm thick across the entire width of the device, and weighs 2.45lbs. The new MacBook is 13mm thick at it's thickest point, and just over 3cm at its thinnest, meaning that the overall volume is considerably less. It's also 2lbs in weight...

Surface Pro 3 has a weak charger and power system ?

Tell that to my electric vehicle!

Can someone explain Miracast and streaming tech with surface?

Still doesn't hold water because there are plenty of 3rd party devices that work fine. The communication is bidirectional. Microsoft obviously has their side down because other products work, including devices available for as little as $30. It's clearly Sony that has dropped the ball here.

Can someone explain Miracast and streaming tech with surface?

And this is the perfect example of why I see no value in bundling 'smart' functions into a tv. For $30 you can have a choice of third-party systems that are more powerful, updated regularly, and work more reliably.

Can someone explain Miracast and streaming tech with surface?

Given that there are numerous other, non-Microsoft devices reported as working, the fault almost certainly lies with Sony's implementation. If it were a Microsoft problem, none of these other devices would be working either.

Would you convert to an iPad Pro and replace your SP3?

The reality is that apps are the new native programs. You wouldn't take it seriously if it were suggested that your desktop programs be replaced by your web browser. (Although more and more of them are seeing just that happen). By the same token, apps are the new native code that can be faster...

Can someone explain Miracast and streaming tech with surface?

Definitely. I have a baby monitor that sits on the counter where I normally work. It absolutely wrecks the performance of my Surface if I don't switch to the 5ghz network. For some reason most of our other devices aren't affected nearly so much.

Can someone explain Miracast and streaming tech with surface?

That's true Chris. It is, however, on the same frequency, so subject to the same interference I was talking about above.

    Dell P2715Q on my SP2

I never ran it at 30hz. I couldn't get the screen to display at any 4k resolution until I made the custom settings, so I never tried it.

Can someone explain Miracast and streaming tech with surface?

Miracast uses wifi direct, which is still an extension of the wifi protocol. At the very least it is still subject to the same interference problems of wifi, and while I'm not 100% sure of this, I presume it shares the same available bandwidth as there is no separate chip to support the miracast...

    Dell P2715Q on my SP2

Fortunately 50hz seems to be perfectly fine for my uses - no issues whatsoever with mouse lag or even watching hd video on it. Looks great - and just like all my smaller screens, once I've seen high-dpi screens of this size it'd be hard to ever go back!

    Best Miracast/Widi device for SP3?

As far as I know there is no way to stream random web video directly on the Roku, but that's when you would use the miracast ability and stream it from your Surface.

Can someone explain Miracast and streaming tech with surface?

Well, Chris, any of these wireless services are exceptionally dependent on a quality wifi network with no interference, as you add a lot of complexity by streaming the content to one device, that then has to turn around and stream it to another. Many people just don't have a robust enough...

    Dell P2715Q on my SP2

They may have their own reasons for stating that, but the fact is, 50hz at 4k works nicely. Glad to hear you got it going Aaron!
