    Why MS doesn't offer the keyboard for SP3 & 4 ?

The larger Surface Book 'screen' or 'clipboard' or whatever you want to call it is 1.6lbs.

Solved SD Card causing 100% disk spikes and system freezes

There have been some issues with Win 10 and the SD card causing excessive CPU usage but I never saw 100% or complete freezes. I would make sure that everything is fully up to date as my issues were (finally) resolved in the last round of updates.

    Why MS doesn't offer the keyboard for SP3 & 4 ?

One, they wanted to offer a new product. Two, for a device to work in clamshell form like a laptop, the base has to be large enough and heavy enough to counterbalance the weight of the screen half. This is why the Surface Book has the odd hinge design, and why the Surface Book is lighter than...

Pro 4 vs. Surface Book vs. iPad Pro...

I dunno - I think they made the sacrifices that were necessary in order to make the Surface Book work at all. Lots of people seem to be wondering why they didn't just make the full keyboard base for the SP4, but the answer is pretty simple - the full SP4 is just too bulky to function well as the...

So what is the real impetus to upgrade to 4?

Might be nice, although the earlier models came in black which would generally be my color of choice and they didn't hold up very well. I think Microsoft is still working out the logistics of managing this kind of hardware to the point they don't need to add additional complexity by offering...

    hands-on, let down

Wobble will be a big issue. It's one of the fundamental problems with building a convertible like this - it looked like they had it solved with this complex hinge. Will be interesting to see how that plays out.

    hands-on, let down

To be clear it appears you are talking about the Surface Book, not the Surface Pro 4. Should go in the other forum. They are calling it a clipboard because it does not have the connectivity or the battery life for them to want to market it as a full-featured tablet.

    SP4 - The missing pieces

When I'm working outdoors at a job site with the stylus or touch, I need to be able to hold the thing like a book. The SP3 is significantly less readable than my iPad outdoors, and the iPad is usable in either orientation.

    SP4 - The missing pieces

Turn it 90 degrees. It disappears entirely in portrait orientation.

Pro 4 vs. Surface Book vs. iPad Pro...

Another bit of hearsay from Reddit - but someone there is saying that Microsoft people at the event he is at are saying that the tablet will NOT charge from the battery in the keyboard. It does, however, allow you to connect it to the power brick separately - and in the hands-on videos you can...

    SP4 - The missing pieces

USB-C This one is an unknown, but I hope they have improved the screen reflectivity and compatibility with polarized sunglasses. This is a big issue for me with the SP3.

So what is the real impetus to upgrade to 4?

Yeah, that's an odd decision. Also, on the website it seems to be only available in black. Fortunately that's the one I want!

Pro 4 vs. Surface Book vs. iPad Pro...

That would certainly make sense - and would make the device a lot more usable if you could periodically pull it off the base throughout the day with it having been topped off each time. I hope so!

Whoa. New "Surface Book" just shown

Through the rest of the reveal I was really appreciating how straightforward they were being with everyone, so it was just a bit off-putting to put that concrete, totally not accurate claim out there.

Whoa. New "Surface Book" just shown

Ars Technica has a video hands-on and they show the screen with the CPU info and it's a i5-6300u which is exactly as I thought - 15w dual-core. Certainly everyone makes outrageous claims, but this one was made as a direct comparison to a specific product and I just don't see it holding up in...

Whoa. New "Surface Book" just shown

All of the processing power, short of the dedicated GPU if equipped, appears to be in the tablet half, so performance should be fine. During the reveal when they claimed that it's 'twice as fast' as a MacBook Pro I thought they might have a second CPU or something in the base, but that doesn't...

Pro 4 vs. Surface Book vs. iPad Pro...

Unfortunately this thread Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book QnA • /r/Surface which seems to be potentially more reliable seems to confirm '3 hours' for the tablet half alone... here as well.

Pro 4 vs. Surface Book vs. iPad Pro...

Splitting it 6/6 would make sense logically, but I'm still not convinced based on those pictures I posted earlier. Also, given that my '9-hour' SP3 gets 5.5 hours long-term average, that would translate to about 7-8 hours total for the Surface Book and 3-4, tops, even if it's an even split for...

Pro 4 vs. Surface Book vs. iPad Pro...

Someone on Reddit who is at the Adobe MAX conference where they were giving hands-on demonstrations says that Microsoft says 6 hours for the tablet half alone.
